Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

I quit. I quit at everything. On the one hand, I'm bored at work, so I want to pour more fuel on this fire, and on the other hand, I kinda don't care about (or know about) odd time signatures barely at all, so I'm conflicted here :) <INSERT HIGHLY CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT ABOUT SONG I LISTENED TO ON...

Ah, thank you for sharing these! I find this lyric/mumble rift really fascinating despite my lack of knowledge on the genre. My main inspiration was this video:

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

Ahh missed a word “you think you will perform poorly” not “you think will perform poorly (in the contest)”. I definitely could have phrased it better. Thank you for the feedback on my feedback! I am not trying to pull underhanded tactics to win. I’d rather gracefully lose around round 4-5 like I al...

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

You make it sound like I’m being sarcastic or that these are monumental tasks or that I actually expect contestants to do them 100%! The challenges are just directional suggestions, some more concrete than others, in areas where I am observing a pattern. Patterns can be good or bad, and if you like...

And I still didn't get a song written. On the upside, I'm starting to use the studio to record the songs of musician friends. And I'm reading whole books of philosophy. And practicing my old Bach piano pieces at least once a week, in the hope of being able to get through them again. When I was seve...

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

Glad you caught the Mother's Day thing! I thought that was a fun coincidence as well. And you're the first review I've seen that mentions the awkward prosody, so now it can be told: We were REALLY crunched on time (partly due to aforementioned Mom's Day), and had NO lyrics (just a handful of "Yo Ma...

Ben's late on the editing. Here are some quick notes to hold you over. I think it's no surprise I see this as a time for people to grow and evolve, so now that we're all warmed up, I have some challenges. Take them or leave them. trying to emulate the sound of mumble rap without actually rapping (since they told us no bad raps lol). Thank you for sharing the inspiration behind the bridge, that's really interesting! Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

I didn't love the actual sharpest/dullest lines for a couple of reasons (they felt mean/condescending in a way the other insult lines didn't, and instead of sounding like a double insult it just sounds to me like you're rephrasing the same insult) No no no! The sharpest/dullest line is not the same...

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

On a general note: coming into this, I understood "diss track" pretty narrowly, to the point of looking it up to see if third person would be OK or if it would have to be directed at a "you"! I was also grateful for Niveous's early clarification that rapping was not a necessary part of the challenge...

Re: Let me twist your arm to write (Bend The Knee Reviews)

BSS : I like the music a lot! Nice switchups between sections and dynamic changes, nice tones, and in particular I really like the way the different guitar parts work together during the "bend the knee" section, the writing and playing of those parts is great. (I looked at your song notes and yes! ...

Owl, not to pile on your observation here, but thank you, Glenny, for bringing that to light! I'm not kidding, that think/thing...er, thing has bothered me for DECADES (ever since the JP song, truth be told)! Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

Sunday Colors- Your voice is wonderful. There’s something very Dylan about this song. Great words, frantic strumming. Reminds me of Richie Havens singing a Dylan song. I’m wishing for more instrumentation. One lyrical thing that irks me (I’m sorry, I’m the son of an English teacher) Now you think t...

Ha! Cool toy.

Maybe you should filter it on short words? I'm getting a lot of one-letter lyric lines, like "g" or "Y".

These seem surprisingly coherent:

Re: Nur Ein XIV Round Two "Pump The Brakes"

I get Abominoninous MP3 album art for every track with that zip album. Is that just a result of making them all part of the same V/A album? I spent six of the last seven days painstakingly positioning budgerigars for our MP3 photoshoot while owl shouted at me to "write the song first" so naturally ...

How do you know I don’t have a Jheri curl? At least someone finally mentioned Hall & Oates. I went through a phase of them for a couple months last year, the “before they got big” stuff. They are coming to Madison soon and I'm considering going to see them. I can see the resemblance in your track! ...

Nice! Love that song.

I love the sparkly Omnichord floating above the guitars, and the wordless kind of hummed vocals going into the big chorus sound great. And the tempo changes!

Bend the Knee

Bend the Knee by miscellaneous owl Dropping my knee too low, I reached too high, pushed off the wrong leg And I felt my kneecap go, the way you know, without having to see it When something's gone wrong inside I can feel it Can you feel it? Reach a little farther towards heaven with your knee bent ...
