Re: Anyone have any lens wipes? (You'll Know It When You See It Reviews)

Amby Moho - not really sure what to make of this. It's appealingly unusual, and quirky in ways that I almost entirely enjoy, but for some reason it doesn't really stick in my head after listening, really - maybe just because it's so short. But I definitely want to hear more from you! Balance Lost -...

Re: Table for Dahmer (The Supper Club Reviews)

Really strong fight! I was worried that the live challenge would result in lots of shaky one-take recordings but in the end there was only one of those, and it was me. Excellent work, you talented bunch. Berkeley Social Scene - enjoyed this, it avoids most of the pitfalls that can sink BSS songs for...

Vom Vorton - Simple, sounds good, catchy, works for me! Vom Vorton: Our first fight together! Time for you to find out what I REALLY think. Well, I really liked this. The drums sound cheap at first, but they've got a really satisfying timbre to them. The guitar sounds really nice too. I once dreamt...

Bon Iver - I,I Why? - AOKOHIO Marika Hackman - Any Human Friend Haiku Salut - The General The Regrettes - How Do You Love? Why? would have been immensely exciting to me ten years ago but I haven't really gotten on with their recent releases. Not immediately excited about any of these to be honest, I...

Vom Vorton recorded live at home It's said a healthy body Leads to a healthy mind Well look into my heart And see what you can find A couple of rats and some cobwebs, probably They say keep yourself active And you'll rest well at night Maybe that explains the visions When I turn off the light Am I ...

Re: Meet me at (The Supper Club prefight)

I've written some lyrics (for the first time since May apparently?), hopefully I'll have time to get something live (or live-adjacent) recorded before the door to the Supper Club slams shut.

edit: In! With a sketchy live-at-home recording.

Woo, my first ever Song Fight cover art. Although FaceApp did most of the work. Anyway, in celebration, here are some reviews. Favourites / votes: Hardmonica - I really like the take on the title, and you've got some good storytelling in the lyrics. I especially like the line about how "she's got th...

Re: Streaming service that doesn't use so much dynamic compression?

Spotify has an option to turn off the volume normalisation (I leave it on because I do a lot of in-car listening, so I can't say how much difference it makes), and allows various higher-quality playback formats if you're a paying subscriber (which I reluctantly am) which may help. But I have to admi...

Yeah I've had no problems. I ticked both the "stay logged in" box and the "randomly log Grumpy Mike out" boxes and both seem to be working perfectly.

Damn, I think this is the first fight since I signed up where I haven't posted reviews. The two winners were probably my favourites though, good work both! Really liked Ken's song as well.

Re: Drifting along with the tumblin' (Tumbleweed Reviews)

Balance Lost - I was honestly pretty excited to hear an extended-length Balance Lost song, but the Radioheaddy stuff... eh, I dunno. I guess I just prefer your songs that are influenced by any other band in the world, they've never been my thing. There's plenty of non-Radioheaddy stuff in here too ...

I have checked out:

Purple Mountains - S/T (David Berman from Silver Jews new band)
Tycho - Weather
Bleached - Don't You Think You've Had Enough?

Really enjoyed all three. Will have to give Imperial Teen a listen too, have really liked some of their stuff in the past.

Re: Don't get pricked on all of the (Porcupine Reviews)

That was excellent, sprawling and extremely detailed. I am fully down for more detailed post-Nur-Ein analysis (I hope that Niveous+Brookes recap still happens) and the commentary on the fight songs was good too! I feel like I'm missing out every time there's a podcast and I don't have a song up for ...

Excellent podcast again, super-detailed reviews and interesting to hear some tales of Olden Days Song Fight, when the reviews were brutal and Nerdcore reigned supreme. Probably. I really appreciate the effort you guys put into discussions of the songs, researching the topics and getting right into t...

Re: Massive X

I've never used Massive all that much either, but I tried out Massive X and it has some pretty nice sounds in it. I found the UI confusing at first but it quickly started making sense as soon as I started messing with it, which is a good sign. Some of the presets seem very CPU-heavy but I guess that...

Re: New Music Friday - 2019-06-28

I had a listen to the Freddie Gibbs / Madlib album. Not really my thing but the production is really nice. Also there's a new Whitney Houston song for some reason! So I listened to that. It was OK. Seems like quite a weak week for new stuff, although I guess I'd feel differently if I liked Thom Yorke!

Also I will volunteer to be a guest on the Songfight podcast whenever you need one, because I enjoy listening to those too, and I think you should do them for all the fights. I second this. We could even both guest at the same time for a Two Vowls, One Sound extravaganza maybe, if that's not a logi...

I love it! I've always wanted to be a Muppet, and sing the best two songs of all time (Rainbow Connection and Message Received by Boffo Yux Dudes ;) )

And I also liked your last song, even if nobody else - including you - did! And I'm a Champ so it counts double.
