They're good for critical listening. But you won't hear phase problems (a common issue on Songfight) or sub bass (that which is felt rather than heard,) and the proximity of the headphone drivers to your ear drum causes natural compression that hinders your ability to gauge transients. it's very ha...

woo-hoo, more audio geekery! i'm in... i quite like the AKG240S, but mainly because they are the only cans i've found comfortable to wear for a long period of time. they have a very light feel. i have other cans that sound "better" (sonys, sennheiser 280s) but that's not really a plus - i ...

barstools: what a fun song. love the "shrimp on the barbie" comment in the background. the guitar has some over-compression problems as has already been noted. i do hope you recorded the ambience live. the song does go on a bit long without a change. befores: the befores go mainstream this...

For those of you wondering who lonbobby's mysterious "Anita" might be I think I figured out the answer: it's blue. It might sound incredible but I have heard him sing and he has a very big vocal range.

-12 is pretty hot, which in my opinion is why so little dynamic range remains in modern pop/rock. Hey, good to see some old timers in this fight. Feels like a mini reunion of sorts, I only wish catknifehorsebomb was here :-) Being an audio nerd I can't resist commenting on this one... The reason no...

hi, i've been doing this for quite a while with good success. i run cubase sx on the "big" pc (any sequencer will do though) and instrument plugins on the "little" pc (which actually has them as vst's in steinberg vstack). when i am happy with the song and ready to mix i record t...

Is that a ringmod on the guitar parts (samples?)? this not a sample, but me flexing my tiny guitar chops on my strat. the ringmod sounds are actually some mouse wiggles on cubase's tranceformer plugin, with a mangled rhodes sort of following the guitar line. INXS - 1st thing I thought of. I know wh...

you know humbert, i wonder if you were late getting posted on the list as i downloaded everyone right after it went up and forgot you too (but i did post something earlier to this effect). anyways humbert=good tune! yeah, for some reason it didn't go up right away and i had to bug fightmaster about...

dee dee dog - i really enjoyed this highly original tune. love the darkly humorous deadpan vocal delivery and the sparseness of the arrangement. is that a real piano? extra points for managing to sound good at 64k. jackshite - yee-har! fun tune -- i dig the country techno crossover. the vocals could...

If you look at the wave form it is quite clearly clipping and it ain't artsy, it's distructive. I love the heavy instrumental tones and I voted for it and featured it on my podcast on Thursday, but OUCH, man...I file that under bad production values. Sorry. But that's just my view. Great song. well...

Was there actually clipping on the final mix of The Befores? Or was there just [possibly intentional] overdriving/overloading on some of the tracks (drums/bass/guitar at least) before the final mix? If I recall correctly the vocals continued to sound clean while some of the other tracks sounded lik...

oh man! this is too much. i'm being sexist for calling christina a slut? gimme a break. first of all, what does calling someone a slut have to do with being sexist? i'm just as ready to call a male performer a slut. as to whether she really is a slut, perhaps i put it a bit too strongly. but before ...

well, when you take my words (or anyone elses for that matter) out of context, sure, you can make anything sound mean spirited. you don't like my opinion? fine, move on. i actually LIKED the tune. i actually LIKE christina aguilara. the comparison was made as the song is extremely slick and well pr...

sounds like something i could see christina aguilara doing. i've heard some pretty strong comments on songfight before but this one takes the cake. from what i know about that particular artist, i translate this to mean, "awful, trite and predictable music, sung by a slut". could you elab...

ok, out of principle i only reviewed the new songs not the old entries. that principle is sloth. creep - interesting vocal effect, but even with the mangling the vox need to be up and hold the center. the loop gets a bit repetitive after a while. deshead - i love the unusual instrumentation and part...

40SS - very cool lo fi production. original and innovative- lot of very good ideas going on here. i particularly like the uke holding things together throughout and sparse percussion. joshw - the usual high standard. the only minor flaw is the kick/bass don't quite sound natural; perhaps i'd rough t...
