Question for the judges: Do any of you plan to use objective criteria for judging? Or will you just rank-order the songs, the way we did it last year? (Not to imply that one approach is better than the other. I'm just curious.)

Maybe you're thinking of me, Sven. I had immunity in round 3, and everyone thought I used it to ignore the non-optional challenge. (I didn't, I just eff'd up the mix.) Looking at the site now, there's no doubt that the 6 people who had immunity all submitted songs. Hey Niv, are you going to administ...

I'll bet it was me. Sounds like something I'd do. But with Ken and Glenn on the panel already, Ben's a much better 4th judge.

From the teach-a-man-to-fish dept. http://emusician.com/mag/emusic_front_center/ http://virtualturntable.fourstones.net/timgs-vocal-extraction-tutorial (In short, vocals are generally in the center channel, but so are most of the drums. I agree with blue.

At the same time, I agree with this woman.

How would the experiment (such as it was) have differed if the musician they used was also a busker?

Re: Is band drama inevitable?

So I've decided I probably won't move in with this guy You may not have given all the details, but based on what you provided, this seems extreme. And somewhat petty. You don't know the reason they didn't talk to you last night. Unless one of them came right out and told you "we're jealous of ...

Mic placement, that's definitely where you need to be looking. his mic and bass drum both suck. it's never going to sound good. It's probably not your intent, but that kinda reads like you're saying "there's no point in trying." Even without high-end mics, JR, there's value in learning th...

http://equalizers.indepthinfo.com/how-equalizer-works.shtml Most equalizers work by mixing a signal with a delayed copy of itself. The delay causes certain frequencies to go out of phase, and thus cancel or re-enforce eachother. Putting 3 separate equalizers on a signal could introduce unintended de...

The kick drum sounds a little rounder ... But I think even if you'd started with this newer version, we'd still have given you the same advice up-thread.

Mic placement, that's definitely where you need to be looking.

Re: Multiband compression

a free DirectX multiband compressor Ya, I don't know of any either. However, Spinaudio makes a free directX vst-wrapper . It's limited, but should be enough to get you running bzl's suggestion, MDA's multiband compressor , Breebaart's Broadcast multiband compressor or this bad boy: http://www.geoci...

The overheads should pick up most of the kick's resonance. Without that, your kick is always going to sound too dry. Rule of t...
