Re: Hey, I'm a winner! Oh, wait... (prefight)

Hey, so I thought I'd be limping back into Song Fight! this week with some unimpressive piano-girl shoegaze. Unfortunately, it's even more unimpressive than I thought. As of now, I have a scratch track in place but I seriously doubt I can fix the problems by tomorrow, much less make it sound good. O...

I was just pointed the other day to look at a facebook album of a sweet-sixteen party. The teenagers were mostly piled together in a kind of flying spaghetti monster. This suits me better.

Re: Songfight NYC v2

Just in case anyone cares, because I haven't seen any more talk about it, but I am definitely going to bring a big fraction of drum kit, which any us of can use if it turns out we need it.

Re: Songfight NYC v2

I'm catching the enthusiasm too. Maybe I'll do a couple piano-girl things when we're breaking stuff down, if I have any voice left at the end of the 15-hour party.

Re: Songfight NYC v2

Hi all, I decided to drive in for certain. I will definitely bring: a dynamic mic and cable, a music stand, drum sticks; some snacks and sodas for the picnic. I will maybe bring my piano. I can easily bring if requested: misc cables/lines; 2nd music stand; tuner; drum stuff (snare, cymbals, kick ped...

Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York

I have a not very good small bass amp suitable for rehearsing. If we're coming to NJ saturday, I'll definitely be driving and it's easy to bring it. Sunday, not so sure what we're doing?

Re: Songfight NYC v2

My guess is the acoustics are "huddle in a circle". And although I think my Peavey thing might be battery-capable, that's probably not in the spirit of "no amplified instruments". I'd argue that my digital piano isn't an amplified instrument too, but with the "no vehicles&qu...

Re: Songfight NYC v2

From the Prospect Park website: • Cricket is not allowed in Prospect Park for safety reasons. WTF!?!?!?! Is this some 200-year-old rule left over from the Revolution? At my college (Penn State) the squash courts had a big sign with numbered rules. Rule 8 was painted over - though the "8" ...

Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York

Maybe someone can make a DVD of an excrutiatingly slow screen-saver? I like the matrix-type graphic ones, and I saw one of a kind of weird rube goldberg machine. I worry about making a video too much more interesting to look at than the band - unless that is the effect that you want? Synchronizing s...

Re: Songfight NYC v2

Re: the afternoon venue, it looks like there must be electrical outlets in that thing. Is that right? I'm leaning more strongly towards driving in, which means I could throw some gear in my car - a little Peavey singer-songwriter amp which can mix a mic and a line, and a mic and stand, say. Maybe my...

Re: Songfight NYC v2

Hi guys, I'll be around for both events. No solo set for me, though.

Mainly I should decide whether to drive or take the train in from Long Island. Having the car could be a pain, but if a bunch of people with guitars would find it helpful then maybe it's worth it. Thoughts?

Hmmm, we can try it. Do you have a recording of what it sounds like?
I can make you one. And you can send it through the FX everyone else is proposing, too, and pick what you like.

Re: x-tokyo-river-god vs. New York

Depends on how fake you want the voice to be. I can make a mechanical, affected voice in different ways, "naturally". I just don't think it will work as a whisper. I can definitely imitate the synth-type voices I've heard people put in recordings.

Re: And all I got was this lousy jumpsuit (Back From Juvie)

Jan Krueger - I like the story and setting; good image of crashed expectations. I'm not sure what you would have done differently with more than three hours to work on it - changed the style completely? No. I'd have redone several takes which are out of rhythm in this version. Which is kind of what...

Re: And all I got was this lousy jumpsuit (Back From Juvie)

Bourbon Drops - Yay for girls being all redeemed and all when they get back from juvie! Main comment is what people keep trying to tell me - too many precious lyrics. I usually don't listen to people when they tell me that. They're right, though. Ca$ham - Not my cup of tea. Can't say why. Sorry! De...
