Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

That's cool. Can you easily find the information by year? It would be super cool for each year to have their own Top 20 list, but if nothing else, it'd be cool to see top vote getter per year for each category: Fight, Artist, Song. But maybe that's overkill? A list of each year with the fight with t...

Re: Song Fight! Turns 20

An obvious thought you've probably already had, but adding a 20 Years Ago Today spot on the front page. A bunch of 20/20 themed contests or posts or front page mentions. We could do a vote on our favorite 20 whatevers.... collaborations, songs, fights, fighters.... Have a coverfight that draws from ...

Re: Song Fight! Live #20 in 2020 for Song Fight! 20th anniversary SF

The wife and I thought it might be in CA this year and are tentatively exploring possibilities (she wants to see CA and I want to stay married, so...) After we had so much fun in Madison, we're gonna try to make it for 2020, too.

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

The bottom line is in order to make money off of music you cannot depend on selling music. But then, it's always been that way. We sold vinyl that contained music. We sold plastic cases which held music. We sold plastic discs that held music. And now we're trying to sell the music. The reality is th...

Am I the only one who wrote about the lip gloss?
Probably... but I had a link to that same lip gloss on Amazon and discussed the idea with Amanda before we failed to do anything together at all.

Thanks For Giving A Damn - Otis Gibbs - Less about music (writing, production) and more stories from musicians. Most of them are super cool stories, too. Even the stuff I didn't think I'd be interested in were interesting.

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels

Your DistroKid uploads will be active for as long as you pay the $25/year or whatever. You should never have to re-upload your stuff unless you decide to re-release a better mix or whatever. Or you don't pay the yearly fee. Then you have to re-upload it or live without it. Say you take a year off. ...

Re: Least-shitty distribution and manufacturing channels

I bought the unlimited DistroKid thing earlier this year on sale. And on the first album upload they said I could pay another 50+ bucks and my music would never be taken down. I assume that means at the end of the year all my shit is gonna have to be re-uploaded or I have to re-up with them. But I h...

Re: Loudness management

To further the quote from Lunkhead: Negative gain is applied to louder masters so the loudness level is at ca - 14 dB LUFS. This process only decreases the volume in comparison to the master; no additional distortion occurs. Positive gain is applied to softer masters so that the loudness level is at...

Re: Online Music Making Challenge Calendar

Spintunes is typically done twice a year. Most years it's January and either Late June or Early July (start dates) but that changed the past year (or two.)

Also, Dave is looking for someone to take over the challenge, it seems.

Re: Loudness management

So I'm fairly inconsistent, but I try to render at -14 LUFS (because I read that's spotify etc., playback level.) Having a guideline that we should aim for is a great idea. Having a playback mechanism that levels out all the songs is a great idea (especially since we can all just download the songs ...

Re: You're blocking my view (Please Move prefight)

I’ve a chord progression that actually sounds like it resolves to the tonic chord. Which was harder than I thought it would be.

Also, I’m in Memphis and will struggle with the deadline when I get back. Should I put that on the excuse thread?

I'm being verbose, and I apologize. There is a help guide for Storm. Hit the wheel and then docs and it shows how you can get some internal rhymes and uses the stresses etc.,

Re: Lyric and Rhyming Tools

Here is the Storm Editor link: https://muse.dillfrog.com/storm/editor If you right click a word it comes up with rhymes. If you hit the paintbrush it colorizes things. There are other nifty things that I've completely forgotten about but none of the controls are obvious. This might not be too useful...
