Postby j$ » Fri Oct 16, 2009 10:37 am

Hi folks. This is a long way off, and nowhere near confirmed, but after having such a blast meeting songfighters in New York earlier this year, it transpires that work may well now be taking me to LA in May 2010 for a long weekend. Would there be any interest in some kind of SF: Presents type performance shindig, or am I just California Dreaming (arf)?

Shows are always possible. If it is the same weekend where I have to work and attend a wedding in Palm Springs, I probably wont be able to attend though... When you know your dates, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Will do, will do, it's provisionally either 8th/9th or or 15th/16th, should have a clearer idea on mon / tues. It would need to be a Friday or Sunday as the work thing that would be taking me there would be on the Saturday in either case.

Hope it doesn't clash but it will quite likely be the weekend of / weekend before US college graduations (as that's what happened last year, to ensure all of our alumni haven't returned back to families across the States) so it might be a problem for students / those of us who are in some way engaged in the US education system.

Sorry, that was probably TMI. :)

Hope we can make something SF-related happen!

I'm Northern California myself, but my in-laws live in LA, so I'm game too if something comes together.

I am going to check with a place in Long Beach where we may be able to do an acoustic show. Would there be interest in that?

Bah, I checked with the boss and that's too far to go with young sir at home. You won't make it East Coasty at all this time, then?

Interesting. I might be at the NAMM show that weekend, even though I'd be dead tired, I could probably make it to a show in Long Beach especially.

Definitely interested, Ross! Have Ukulele, will travel!

Bill, no, it's unlikely, though I am trying to wangle a business trip via New York at the same time, will keep you posted.

I talked about this with Ken on Monday. You're talking about May right?
Ken I think NAMM is in January.

May is a good possibility for me.

I'd LOVE to play Long Beach! (I used to live there) if it's May I'll bring the whole famn damily down. If it's January, I'm afraid I'll be in New York.

BTW I'm trying to get a gig in mid to late Jan in New York with Glennny & Friends, but that's another thread.

Ok so I spoke to my connection in Long Beach and he's up for it. It's a vegetarian and vegan restaurant with a cool vibe. What date is best? Friday the 14th?

Lets have some feedback on this and I'll get on reserving the place with him.

Could probably do acoustic in the evening and bands after official closing time. They have no PA and neither do I would someone be able to bring one?

@Ross: on the extremest edge of chance, is it a dog-friendly restaurant/establishment? Shut-up BLT

Going down to San Diego sometime in ought-ten with the Rabid household, and being a ten-year veteran of the LBC, *and* the opportunity to meet y'all (not in the least the esteemed Mr. Cashpoint) well... you can dig it. Besides, spring's a good time for SoCal, to tramp the beach at the peninsula, get some SuperMex salsa in me, avoid my ex-wife, &c., &c.

Ok, I now have us officially on the Calendar For Friday May 14th at 7 pm at Zephyr Vegetarian Cafe in Long Beach. Don't be scared, I am a total carnivore and enjoy several entrees there. It's all ages and a family appropriate bohemian setting but they do also serve beer and wine - the owner asked if he should stock up on beer for that night, please advise. There's a blue line station 2 short blocks away if someone needs to commute in.

(Sorry Rabid, not dog friendly :-( )

We would start at 7 while the place is still open for dinner, they would close the kitchen at 9, their normal closing time - so we will probably try to program more acoustic from 7 - 9 and be louder if necessary after that. Please plan on eating there, I'd really like to support the place.

Would need someone to bring a PA.

Who's in? and do I start a new thread for this?

I'd be up for participating. I've got acoustic G&G arrangements of some of my various electro-blippy songs that I'd just love to perform sometime.

I'd been going back on forth on this in the chat room, but that was before I remembered that my sister-in-law has a college graduation to which I need to attend. I'm a definite no-go on this one. Sorry guys.
