Wish List

Postby Märk » Sat Oct 02, 2004 9:16 am

You ever hear a song (by a songfighter/signed artist/whatever) which makes you think "MAN, I would LOVE to hear _____ do a cover of that!"?

I'll start. I'd love to hear Jute Gyte do a cover of Candy-O by the Cars.
I'd love to hear HisNameIsDan do a cover of Devil's Haircut by Beck
I'd love to hear Glenn Case do a cover of Good Times Bad Time by Zeppelin

Of course, I'd reciprocate by doing a cover of any song they want in return.

More to follow.

I would enjoy hearing our Mr. Kellis do something from Dylan Hicks' "Poughkeepsie" CD, especially "Hundred Dollar Bill" or "I'm Not From Around Here."

I also think that an Octothorpe cover of Lou Reed's "Sex With Your Parents" would be a hoot.

speaking of octothorpe, i think the greatest thing in the entire universe would be hearing/seeing them play "hell" by squirrel nut zippers. just think about it. absolute perfection!!

more:

Calfborg- You should cover FBLA (off Strap It On) by Helmet (This would be *perfect*)

Roymond- Strawberry Fields Forever by The Beatles seems custom made for your cover-action.

15-16 Puzzle- I'll bet you'd do an awesome version of Can't Stand Losing You by The Police

Hoblit- Electric Eye by Judas Priest. Need I say more?

[edit] ONE MORE (for now) sonofsupercar- cover Drawing Flies by Soundgarden

I know Frankie has already covered REM, but I'd love to hear him tackle "Everybody Hurts."

I'd like to hear JBB teach Counting Crows how to cover Joni Mitchell right. "Big Yellow Taxi," or any song, really.

I'd like to hear Jim of Seattle cover something by his favorite guilty pleasure, Hilary Duff. I'd say "Come Clean," since that's the only one I know, but it's a heck of a track.

I'll bet Sven Mullet could do a kickass version of "Crumble," by Dada (thanks, Glenn!).

I'll bet Niveous would enjoy taking on "Hallelujah," but that's on my GoM 2004 list, so...

How about Pompeii covering "Fat Bottomed Girls?" That'd just be too devious, wouldn't it?

Sober Irishman would be the logical choice to cover The Mudmen's "Underdog," if he'd ever heard of them.

That's all I got for now.

I'd like to hear sonofsupercar do "Teeth Like God's Shoeshine" by Modest Mouse, despite having already ripped off Modest Mouse on there CD.

I'd also like to hear Raised by Wolves cover "I Know" by the Barenaked Ladies. Or any of BNL's bouncy stuff from Gordon or Born on a Pirate Ship. But especially "I Know."

Dude, I am SO not Jimmy Page, but I might have to give this one a crack.

Maybe when I don't have what seems like 100 projects on my plate, but I might just do this. Led Zep is one of my bigger influences, perhaps you could tell and that's why you thought of this one.

Hey, that's a nice song. I've got a crapload of stuff on my plate, but I also don't have a life, so everything might work out alright.

I have it on good authority that you've got a cover of "Bad Attraction" by the Black Hat coming at you, if only a certain color could get his drums finished... ;)

OOH! That sounds cool. Thanks for the tip.

Also: I am not sure if my wish of "Monkey in your soul" was the most obvious choice for you, but I do think it would be interesting to see how you would interpret it.

Glenn,

I do not have, and can not find, 'God Of The Sun'. You got this on file? I'd love to hear it.

I will hook you up, sir. I think you will like it too, but I am at work right now.

Thinking of this further, Marshall Crenshaw songs would suit you well also, such as "Mary Anne" or "There she goes again"

i posted this list over on somesongs back in January, but no-one seemed inspired by it:

15-16 Puzzle covering 'I Say Nothing' by Voice Of The Beehive.
Donkey T covering 'Opportunities' by The Pet Shop Boys.
John Benjamin Band covering 'Ave Dementia' by The Marionettes
Hoblit covering 'Holly' by Republica
Frankie Big Face covering 'A Way' by The Bolshoi
sunofsupercar covering 'Swamp Thing' by The Chameleons
MISS covering 'Lights' by The Sisters Of Mercy
Swedish Masturbation Unit covering 'Pure Morning' by Placebo
Brother Machine (do they somesong?) covering 'Amelia' by The Mission

I'd like to further suggest:

Duboce Triangle covering 'Sour Times' by Portishead
The Idiot Kings covering 'An Eye for The Main Chance' by Rosetta Stone
Starfinger covering 'I Wanna Be Sedated' by The Ramones
C Hack covering 'Fait Accompli' by Curve
Sober Irishman covering 'Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere' by Carter USM. heh.
The Hell Yeahs covering 'Winter Born' by Cruxshadows
Glenn & Rachael covering 'The Killing Moon' by Echo And The Bunnymen.

Oh yeah, and J$ covering 'The Lunatics (Have Taken Over The Asylum)' by Fun Boy Three. Eventually. :P

Mr. Case, I have not heard of either those songs, but if you wanted to e-mail me copies, that'd be great. I would listen to them and quite possibly produce a cover of one or both. Huzzah.
