Yacht Rock cover fight!

Is there any way Chris de Burgh's "The Lady In Red" fits into this category? If so, count me in as I've wanted to cover that for years for some strange reason. Otherwise, I will have to do some digging around as I do find the idea intriguing.

No. Tull is not viable. Yes I know they were in the show. But I don't think it was trying to make an argument for Tull (the band, not the agriculturalist) as Smooth. I think they just wanted to dress up in loose shirts and talk in faux shakespeare, while playing a flute.

I think it's the smooth genre hence why I asked if I could cover 10cc. Heather said yes (for which I am grateful) but no to Tull who are in the series. S it is the smooth/yacht rock genre that is important. Unless I am mistaken which wouldnt be the first time today

Definitely open to the genre as a whole. I didn't want to leave out the possibility that some <a href="http://blog.wfmu.org/freeform/2005/10/this_post_conce.html">other bands/songs</a> are very Smooth but were not (yet) included in the show. I expect people to familiarize themselves with the Yacht Rock genre in whatever manner they see fit*, and then make appropriate suggestions based on that.
What do you guys think of that plan?

* eg, methods could include
- watching the epsiodes, repeatedly
- thoroughly browsing wikip and then downloading the songs on itunes
- being born between 1950 and 1970
- having parents born in said years

"Reminiscing" for sure, but i'm on the fence about Air Supply.... i leave it to the board's opinion. They might be too-far-post-yacht-rock, stylistically...

I'm worried "Danny's Song" although by one of the qualifying artists is actually from before the genre started, but I'll leave it up to you guys.

Jack you nailed it. I couldn't remember the name of the song but the first thing I thought about when I came across the "Yacht Rock" phenomenom, (thanks to Glenn's You Tube site BTW) was the CSN video. I was very surprised it hasn't been included in any of the 10 episodes I've watched. Maybe out of respect. But then again, I was surprised that Steely Dan is included because I wouldn't put them in this classification myself. They certainly are 'smooth" but damn, they're also extremely talented. Who uses a 13th chord every other verse besides them?

Yeah! I was born in 1962. I qualify!

I think the Henley and Frey catalogue should be excluded because we already did an Eagles sidefight and they got their asses kicked by Becker and Fagen in the series anyhow.

At some point Moboid needs to lay down the letter of the law and take control of this project the way that Niveous did with Nur Ein. I personally don't care if it's a strictly boxed in set of rules or loosley interpreted set of guidelines, but clarification needs to happen.
