If I am not already taking on too much with this sidefight (which I probably am), I may try to tackle "The Lady in my life" by Michael Jackson which is SUPER smooth.

I love this era of music. It's a perfect opportunity to make a few covers.

ROCK!

Interesting choice. How is it related to the Yacht and/or the Rock?

And can you offer linkage? I'm not as familiar with that song.

It loosely ties into episode 5. Michael Jackson decides that he is going to bring the ROCK for the Thriller album, but he is scared back into being SMOOTH by Vincent Price and co. A member of Toto really DID write the song "Human Nature" which is featured in the episode, but another smooth song from the very same album is "The Lady in my life". One could assume that he recorded this smooth song after being scared into recording "Human Nature"

You can judge whether it qualifies or not by listening here.

EDIT: Oddly enough, the same way that "I Keep Forgetting" by Michael McDonald was revived for "Regulate" by Warren G (as demonstrated in Episode 7), "The Lady in My Life" was sampled for the similarly smooth "Hey Lover" by L.L. Cool J. and Boyz II Men.

DOUBLE EDIT: Or "Human Nature" would be perfectly fine too. Particularly since I just learned that ridiculous keyboard intro on guitar...

ROCK!

Actually, that's going to be Prayformojo and myself. We will be credited as "Christopher Case"

moboid wrote:Justin - Gerry Rafferty's Right Down the Line

It's me and Justin. Please credit it to "Chuck the Bear"

King Arthur - Steely Dan's Gaucho
Seamus and Evil-E - Steely Dan's Do It Again

I can arrange some audio of Gaucho when I get home. I think that Do It Again qualifies, but it's a close call. I think that "Gaucho" is actually even smoother than "Do It Again" for what it's worth.

OK Glenn, I made all those updates you mentioned.
I'll include them in the next update after I've heard back from a few more folks about their songs.

I'm not sure whether Killy was serious about Love Will Keep Us Together or not. At any rate, either way I'd still like to do Do That To Me One More Time (also Captain & Tennille).

yeah, i think that'll be untenable for now (tho i was serious.) put me down to do "love will keep us together" solo.

also, can Full Sail's IPA be the official beer of the sidefight?

Hey, good to have you with us! Neither of those songs are remotely Yacht Rock. The videos and web sites linked in the post announcing the fight explain what is Yacht Rock, so please have a look if you haven't already. I know you'll find something you like in there.

I have to agree with Erin on this one. This is Rock for a Jet Fighter, not a Yacht.

I know I am in for a couple of entries already, BUT I would like to call one last song, and then I will start actually working on these songs.

The song that Kenny Loggins is singing to Messina that is the "Shitty music that makes him barf" is a song called "Whenever I call you Friend". It's a duet with Kenny Loggins and Stevie Nicks. Rachael and I would like to claim that one.

ROCK!

King Arthur - Steely Dan's Gaucho

I have yet to run into a Steely Dan song that I honestly dislike, and Gaucho is one of their smoothest tracks ever, IMHO.

Yacht Nazi says, "NO SMOOTH FOR YOU!"

Does being in the "Not Yet Decided" list mean that I haven't decided on a song yet, or that Mob. hasn't decided if it's an okay song? Since I picked a song like four days ago and I was just sorta wondering if it would be ruled on before the submissioni deadline, or if it had been lost in all the smoothery. (Hint: rhymes with "You're the Flinspiration, by Chicago.")

Gosh, I hope my lack of faith isn't enough to get me kicked out of the line.

I just read something the other day about how this was recorded - have you seen it? Apparently, that white noise-ish vocal kind of thing is like a gazillion tracks of "ahhhh" on every note in the chromatic scale, looped and faded in and out. I'm not describing it very well and should find the link but I put it on my "someday, yeah right" to-do list to try and replicate that effect. Ah, yes, here: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun05/articles/classictracks.htm

I did see that article and had heard the story before......but no I will not be doing a 'technical' tribute cover!! Thank god sequencers and samples have come a long way in the last 30 years cause there is no way I have the time or equipment to mimic what they did. Still one of my faves from the era so really looking forward to it.

Hey Craig, For what it's worth, I imagine you would do a bang-up job on "Arthur's Theme (Best That You Can Do)"

I hear the potential sound of this in my head, and it sounds divine. Drop the key down a couple of notches, but otherwise... Yeah... it sounds freaking cool in my noggin.
