AAW. WTF. 2007.

Album A Week. With Twists for Fun. 2007.

Starting: Midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific (That's the night of Sunday 15th/morning of Monday 16th)
Ending: Midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific (That's the night of Sunday 22nd/morning of Monday 23rd)

AAW WTF 2006 thread can be found here.

The Contestants(as far as I can tell anyway):

Bjam
Caravan Ray
Glenn Case
J$
JR
Plat
Puce
Ross Durand
spOOn

Rules:
# It must be written, performed, recorded, post-produced, etc. all in one contiguous 7 day period.
# It must be at least 35 minutes or 40 songs.
# Your band may have multiple participants, but they should not work on different songs simultaneously. (So just one song being worked on at a time.)
# No ideas from before the chosen day! This means covers or reinterpretations are not allowed.
# No out-takes! If you start a song, finish it and put it on the album.
# Competition begins TONIGHT, Midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific (That's the night of Sunday 15th/morning of Monday 16th)
# Albums due in one week. Midnight Eastern/9pm Pacific (That's the night of Sunday 22nd/morning of Monday 23rd)
# When you're finished, post a link to your finished creation for us all to enjoy.

The Twists for Fun:
#1: This time it's personal. Reveal something ostensibly personal about yourself or someone you know. (It's okay to lie)
#2: phoney baloney! Incorporate a phone sound into your song (e.g. touch tone, pulse, ringing, etc). Bonus points for also incorporating bologna.
#3: Do a song with only two chords.
#4: Write a song using a title from the SF archives that you haven't already used.
#5: Write a song about being in an indian restaurant on a hot date and eating kashmiri lamb and getting a piece of the lamb stuck in your teeth and trying to dislodge it with your tongue whilst still hoping to get off with said hot date (extra incorporation.... instead of nice typical music playing in the background, the restaurant is subjecting its patrons to S Club 7's greatest hits...)
#6: Write a song about your best birthday
#7: No vocal treatment - don't apply compression, pitch correction, or any other effects to your vocal tracks. Compressing the final mix (i.e., mastering) is OK. Challenge does not apply to songs w/o vocals.
#8: Flattery - Imitate another band or musician well enough that the listener can identify who you're emulating. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter; double bonus points if it's another AAWWTF'er.
#9: Write a song about another band or musician, but don't mention their name. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter; double bonus points if it's another AAWWTF'er. (Note: It can be fictional.)
#10: For the underage, the recovering alcoholics, and the people who are just kinda creeped out by the idea of getting drunk at home by themselves, instead get smashed on poprocks and redbull. Hell, even the caffeine is optional, just do whatever it takes to get your brain into an altered state (anything except actually watching the movie Altered States).
#11: Steal the chords from a popular song, and write an entirely new melody to it.
#12: Landscapes
#13: Backwards backwards backwards

Good luck!

I will consider joining this throughout my work shift today. Probably not the best time for me to make an AAW, but it may not be the worst time either.

And I would 'like' to make some new music outside of the stuff I am currently obligated to complete.

ROCK!

First song= Done! Clocks in at around 3.5 minutes, so I've only got 31.5 minutes to go. This thing is easy :P

I'm officially starting this now. The last week was pretty exhausting, and I only woke up half an hour ago. I'm really pumped to do this again.

ps. Plat, your song Old Seal is pretty cool. The sound effects you're using are really interesting.

I have to say now, looking at my work schedule this week, I am almost certainly not going to finish 35 minutes, as I am out of town with work, so I am taking the approach of crafting what I can into something worth hearing. Also writing a lot of slooooowwww songs :)

Without further ado, http://www.johnnycashpoint.com/AWAW/joh ... _devil.mp3

Pretty happy with this one. It's my 'personal' one (#1) and though I could do with a drummer with a light touch and some female backing vox, it's sweet. 'Enjoy'

I've got several ideas, but I'm feeling really unproductive today. However, the ideas so far have a pretty good feel all around - the album's going to have some serious riffage and heaviness.

Maybe if you start with fun twist #10 you will start to bounce.

Got started last night:
2 songs partially finished, twists #1 and #3 covered, 4:59 of music recorded. The hot new disco party album of the summer is underway!
This is fun!
Very different to the way I normally do things.
Hope I can finish this

Groovy baby!…me like.
Some whistling along to the melody would be cool. I enjoyed it, haven’t hear any new J$ stuff in while.

Oh - and just to give you fair warning Dre, my song for twist #9 is likley to be called "Andre Was Here At Midnight". Don't worry though, it will involve no defamation or slander - and don't go looking for any personal significance in it - I just thought that was a good title for a song.

I think I'm gonna try starting on this. I didn't get through the whole original thread - are all of the twists mandatory? Or just there for inspiration.

They're "for fun" so it's mostly optional/inspirational. It's fun to see how many of them you can fit in (although, of course, some are harder than other).

SecretAcronym, you totally forgot to include that in the rules. Nice job. ;)

Officially starting. Except I can't find a pick. I guess a bread-tag will do.

My AAW philosophy so far: fuck lyrics.

So far I'm totally skimping on lyrics and quality vocals. I will regret this later.

I wrote and recorded a song called "Golfpunk Drives a Cadillac" this afternoon.

Glenn Case - Golfpunk Drives a Cadillac (Demo)

I guess that means I'm in!
