Ok, Against my better judgement I have started working on this. I have the basics of four songs that fill about 8 minutes - (Don't be surprised if the centerpiece of the record is a 12 minute blues jam :-) )[kidding]

Bummed to come back in from my recording space and find that I am bookending the album with twist from the original thread that is no longer part of the current thread.

We'll see how much I get done - but at this point I am expecting at least an eclectic little EP.

Well, I have the music done on my first one, but my lyrics are just an image in my head at this point. It's really raw and yucky and needs some production. Clocking in at almost 5 minutes, so I need 6 more just like it by Sunday. I don't think I can pull this off and I don't know why I even started.

Maybe the next songs will come easier. 8)

That's how I always feel when I'm doing this. During both AAWs as well as during my AAD, I felt pretty hopeless until the end stretch.

I need to get to work. Bye bye.

Oh no! Injury set back! I busted up my left shoulder and can't play guitar at the moment  It should be better soon, but I was counting on today being one of my intense AAW days(since I won't be around Friday/Saturday). I guess I'll go write some lyrics at least.

I just wrote 3 songs. I think they're pretty good, and I've got some guitar tracks down for them. The first one clocks in at 2 minutes, the second at 3 minutes, and the third at 1 minute. I need to write some longer ones, otherwise I'm done for.

I took a short break from recording to eat some alpha-getti, as well as to get out of my stifiling hot recording room. Now I get to work a bit more - once my hands are bleeding from recording so much guitar, I'll take another break.

I also can't record vocals yet because I'm sick. What luck.

Got started last night:
2 songs partially finished, twists #1 and #3 covered, 4:59 of music recorded. The hot new disco party album of the summer is underway!
This is fun!
Very different to the way I normally do things.
Hope I can finish this

8 songs currently under construction simultaneously, clocking in at 19:43 of recorded music. Songs range from one being about 98% complete, to a couple that are just riffs so far. Most have some lyrics recorded. One is in French. Sort of.

Enjoying this enormously!

Good to hear. I've enjoyed both AAW WTFs so far. I officially have my guitar tracks for 4 songs -
Song 1 - 1 minute approx
Song 2 - 2 minutes approx
Song 3 - 3 minutes approx
Song 4 - 4 minutes approx

I've got twists 1, 3, 4, 5, 8, and 9 covered in a total of 10 minutes!

Hating my vocals so very much, I'm not even sure why I post these songs. I'll probably just push forward and clean up these mudbuckets Sunday. Right.

Ok, I think I have about 18 minutes of music in the works right now in various stages of development. I figure on trying to get frameworks of 36 minutes down first and go back to add touches later.

I don't think I've quite mastered the process of multiple song creation yet, but here's track one...

Cynthia Size and the @eclectic spOOns - I Like You

I've lyrics for 3 more and a few odd bits of noise... hmmm!

Man - you guys have a lot of music already. I've only got 11 minutes. I guess I'll have to do some instrumentals like last time. If not, I'll have to make some epics. I've set up a mediocre page for my songs - it's in my signature. However, I've got no songs finished yet, so there's really no reason to go there.

EDIT - POST 1000!!!!!! LET'S ALL HAVE A PARTY!!!!!

I've got 1 five minute song 95% done and a 30 minute acoustic jam as an emergency back up, in my head....somewhere.

#2: phoney baloney! Incorporate a phone sound into your song (e.g. touch tone, pulse, ringing, etc). Bonus points for also incorporating bologna.
#3: Do a song with only two chords.
#4: Write a song using a title from the SF archives that you haven't already used.
#5: Write a song about being in an indian restaurant on a hot date and eating kashmiri lamb and getting a piece of the lamb stuck in your teeth and trying to dislodge it with your tongue whilst still hoping to get off with said hot date (extra incorporation.... instead of nice typical music playing in the background, the restaurant is subjecting its patrons to S Club 7's greatest hits...)
#6: Write a song about your best birthday
#7: No vocal treatment - don't apply compression, pitch correction, or any other effects to your vocal tracks. Compressing the final mix (i.e., mastering) is OK. Challenge does not apply to songs w/o vocals.
#8: Flattery - Imitate another band or musician well enough that the listener can identify who you're emulating. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter; double bonus points if it's another AAWWTF'er.
#9: Write a song about another band or musician, but don't mention their name. Bonus points if it's a fellow Songfighter; double bonus points if it's another AAWWTF'er. (Note: It can be fictional.)
#10: For the underage, the recovering alcoholics, and the people who are just kinda creeped out by the idea of getting drunk at home by themselves, instead get smashed on poprocks and redbull. Hell, even the caffeine is optional, just do whatever it takes to get your brain into an altered state (anything except actually watching the movie Altered States).
#11: Steal the chords from a popular song, and write an entirely new melody to it.
#12: Landscapes
#13: Backwards backwards backwards

can I suggest one more late one, (or at least offer it as an idea). I would like to use this weeks SF! title for the album and enter the firght as well - but since there is no title as yet - I have gone to the rather inferior opposition at Tuneflow and used one of their titles and will enter it in their August competition

Okay, so a little more work tonight finishing up some of what I started and I am beginning to have to face the idea that I am highly unlikely to complete 36 minutes of music.

So I am having to ask myself this question - do I keep working, knowing I'm likely to come up short. Or drop out, knowing that I am unlikely to complete the specified task?

Dilemmas.

Ross, please continue, because even if you don't finish you'll at least end upwith some of your usual stonkin' good tracks that you can then share with us, after all I'm going to inflict you all with at least two more tracks before I explode... so the world needs something to counteract that :D

Aww crap - now I see what I did. When I saw this thread, I read the first post and saw the link to the 2006 AAW, and assumed (brain off) that it was the prefight discussion for this year's thread. So I used a twist from last year. I hope this won't discqualify me - I swear I never thought about it before. I didn't even know there was a sidefight like this last year.
Crap.

Well, this scares me a bit. I always look to you as the voice of reassurance. Now my voice of reassurance is questioning his assurance. Crap!

This just has to do with time availability - leaving town late Saturday - which means I basically have to be done Friday night, I think. I just don't see 35 minutes coming together by then - but I am forging forward!!!!
