I think I finally finished. After seeing a couple of these titles, I don't feel so bad about mine anymore. Although I did have to do some research on it. Thanks Wiki and whoever gave me this F'-ing title My title is "The Prisoner's Dilemma". It's about a guy and a girl who both get caught for doing some kind of crime and is sung from the guy's wishful thinking point of view from his interrogation room (while she is in her own room).

Sorry you found the title difficult - but as soon as Jon wrote those words earlier in the thread I thought - "That is a great song title"

I just had quite a dilemma writing that title. I am sure that word was spelt "dilemna" when I was at school. I wrote many papers at university on environmental policy etc, quoting the prisoner's "dilemNa" - definitely spelling it with an "N". That was how all my notes and text's spelt it, and how lecturers spelt it. I thought it was a colour/color British/American type thing. But I just checked the Macquarie Dictionary, and correct Australian usage is "dilemma". Even the Oxford also has "dilemma".

I checked that with some old school mates on the weekend - and they all also thought "dilemma" was spelt with an "n". That is so weird.

And just in case anyone thinks I somehow copped out by entering the same song in both this and the weekly songfight - I thoroughly recommend writing songs to 2 titles. This is now the 3rd time I've done it (Sugar Shaker/No One Else [Nur Ein and Songfight] and So Blue/One Foot Out The Door (Purple Reign sidefight and a Tuneflow title]).

It is a great way to get ideas for what may be a vague or ambiguous title. In this case - I saw that "Front and Centre" was a phrase used by actors - so I joined it with "That's How I Feel", to do a song about sombody incapable of feeling empathy - hence the song is about a psycopath that has abducted an actress. That never would have happened without the 2 titles.

I got the idea to enlist a guest vocal and I don't think we'll get it together by tomorrow, especially since it's a holiday. Will finish soon, though.

Quick and dirty reviews.

Signboy - Wow. I love the riffs. These vocals are awesome! You guys certainly know how rock and roll should beeeeeeeeeeee. Fake drums folks take notes: THIS is how to program fake drums. Have I mentioned that these vocals are killer? Again, wow.

Sven Mullet - You are so well suited to tackle this title, it is almost unbelievable that the assignments were random. Some good lines in here (Whoever it is who keeps entering lame poo songs into the main fights, take notes). I really like the progression and riffs. Production-wise, there's a weird low grumbly noise that feels like it's adding more schputz than useful noise. The instrumentation throughout is a little samey, it would be nice to have a breakdown or buildup somewhere to break it up.

Ross Durrand - Another perfect title-entrant match. A great story backed with superb guitar work. I like the "ashes to ashes" end. There are a few places where the noodly guitar overdubs collide with one another, but on the whole a minor complaint in an excellent track.

Jan Krueger - Amazing harmonies. I love the way this builds as the track goes on. The drums get a little loose in some places. The progression in the "no one understands" bit is great. Lyrics are a little abstract for my taste, but file that under personal preference, I suppose.

Mike Lamb - This is pretty solid. The noodly guitar throughout is nice. I like the harmonies. Suffers a little bit from sameness all the way through. Not a huge fan of the drums, but they do a good enough job. The bass does a great job of being a nice melodic line without taking over the track. I love the lyrics.

Caravan Ray - Vocal delivery meshes well with the lyrics. This does a good job of building to the "baby baby" bit. The guitar is a little mushy, I wish it had more of an edge.

Apodan - I like the idea here. The execution goes a little too far past "gentle ribbing" and into "mean spirited" for my taste. A drum circle singalong breakdown would help reinforce the vibe. If you asked me to free associate on the word "vegan", the first things I would say would be "granola, patchouli, stinky, dreadlocks" and you didn't use any of those words. I don't know if that's good or bad. The "all hail" bits get a little repetitive. Side note: is this Weakest Suit?

Billy's Little Trip - Spoken intro goes on a little too long. OK, this is hilarious. The precussion is great! I'm not so into the bass tone. The luck/fuck rhyme is so obvious, I'd consider avoiding it, something like "you're in luck/she just wants to party!" The "three vaginas, two small dicks and one big ball" line made me spit coffee out my nose. Great lyrics and a frantic fun feel! This would be better with a real Paco, but you work with what you got.

Chris Cogott - The birds are perfect! Spot-on harmonies and production. Drum track could use some more variation. Excellent lyrics and outstanding performance!

Tee hee. The drums are completely computer-generated. I just added a bit of a shuffle feeling, and some of the accents were pretty much random but I liked them the way they are now.

Lol. We think alike. It was meant to be excruciatingly obvious because the originally written lyric was "you're in luck/she just wants to fffornicate". But I kept saying fuck while rapping it out and just said hell with it, I'll fix it later. Later never came, lol.
And yes, this was written with Paco in mind, but he's still out of the game for a bit.

Oh, and I have a long version and a short version. I opted to submit the long version. Maybe I shouldn't have.

Thanks! I totally agree with you about the drums. I was already working on fixing that. I usually spend the first day or two just on drums but was running out of time.

So is there official cover art for this so I can burn a cd when they're done? I suck at writing reviews but I have to say all these songs have turned out really well so far. Good job! This was a lot of fun.

Sweet... BLT had fun with my title! Looking forward to listening to it after I've gotten "Turkish Prison" done and shipped.

(Which I'd promised Jon Eric today, but fighting for my life to keep my j-o-b--it appears they're moving towards hiring unskilled, wet behind the ears, "I've got a graphic design degree and the sum total of my work experience is making a banner for my niece's bat mitzvah" minimum wage chump labor and an automated workflow to replace us experienced types because the new/current powers that be don't understand the existing workflow and would rather recreate something in their own image, so I've had to be friendly, helpful, and positive and focus on corporate hand jobs rather than actually produce work, keeping those down the production chain from me producing and making the company its money and so forth--has me burned the fuck out. Hoping my prescheduled 4 day weekend starting tomorrow won't get yanked away today, which would be ideal for getting 'er done, as they say. The only concession I've gotten out of this ongoing drama is the establishment of an "obscenity preserve", where I can go and say things like "cock-sucking, rat-fucking shitbirds" in peace, without fear of hurting anyone's precious illusions about what a nice world it is where everyone at the company in their shirts & ties, going from latte to latte during the workday [who aren't actually involved in the production aspect of how we make our money] is happy all the time, &c., &c., ad nauseam.)

I loved the title, and was quite happy to have drawn it. It was something of a challenge to write for, but hey, it was no "Rockopolousaninjananophone".

My final recording is radically different from how I originally envisioned it, as I had first dreamed up something much faster, more upbeat, busier, more electronic, and nearly impossible to pull off with my given setup. But yeah, the original structure for the lyrics didn't have the title in it - instead it relied on the hook "Viva me." I might still write that one somewhere down the line.

Also, when promoting the song on Facebook, I had tagged the wrong Bill, and it took me almost two whole days to notice. Guess no one's paying attention.
