Songfight LIVE 2008 Tampa, Hot & Sweaty

Postby Hoblit » Fri Mar 28, 2008 10:58 pm

YES, we know it was only 450'ish miles from Tampa last year in the ATL, but Spokane is being held over until 2009 and nobody else has really stepped up for nominating a city, but Tampa it is!

SONGFIGHT LIVE Hot & Sweaty. August 15-17th.

The show as of right now is planned as a Saturday Festival event on August 16th.

@ The Ritz Theater in Ybor City (Ybor City is a historic district of Tampa near downtown.)
Donations towards the event can be made via Pay Pal hoblitygoodness AT yahoo DOT com
(you'll need to click the 'send money' link)

Tampa is the keystone to the whole Tampa Bay area which has in itself plenty to offer. Tampa has an amusement park called Busch Gardens and yes, its owned by the beer makers as well as a whole section of town devoted to night life. St. Petersburg, the second largest city in the Tampa Bay collective hosts the world renowned professional baseball team known as the Rays...I'm sure they'll be a huge draw. It too has a pretty good night life located in its downtown area. Clearwater, the third but not forgotten home of Scientology has its own share of party by night attractions but is best known for its beautiful beaches and is less than an hour's drive from my place in Tampa.

Any help in this endeavor will be greatly appreciated. Please discuss.

Let me start by asking: What weekend is best for ya'll?
No preference for me. Just say when. As for volunteers, I am probably of no use via the computer, but in person will gladly pack mule for you and offer up my meat hooks. It'll probably be cheaper to fly, especially with gas prices that typically rise in the summer, but if I drive down in my little Tacoma pick'em up truck, I'd be glad to use it for shuttling gear around town. I'll look at numbers when the dates get confirmed.

I enthusiastically support this location.

I will be living on one side of Tampa or the other (north or south, via I-75) when the show comes along, so I'm within pretty easy driving distance. I will definitely attend SFL, no matter where in the nation it is, but Tampa is a good deal for me, since I pretty much have to drive to Tampa to get a decent price on flights to anywhere. I don't have a job at the moment, so I'm free to do anything at all to help for the next month or so, and I'll probably still have a pretty good deal of time all the way up until the show.

I've lived in Hillsborough County before. I sort of know what's going on there. I have a small crossover SUV that's pretty good at configuring itself to support cargo, as long as it doesn't weigh tooooo much, for a variety of reasons. It can fit people in it, too. I'm a good choice to fill out your (anyone's) live band. I play a decent amount of different instruments with varying capability. I can't sing tutti harmony on command, but I can do backup singing and shouting, and I can talk at length about nothing in particular. What more could you ask for? Reliability? Yeah, probably.

I have no preference for dates, but some of my mates might. I've started asking around.

Yeah, Mkilly is right... he even pin pointed Van Nuys... which is probably the porniest per capita city in the nation. The company I used to work for had several business partners in that city. Up until two years ago I still did work for a 'business owner' there. If I'm not mistaken, Ant's business was there. Ant was a guy who owned a web cam operation but sold it when he got some more TV gigs. If anyone remembers that comedian reality show where all those guys get on a bus and compete city after city, there was a gay guy named Ant, that'd be who I am talking about.

ANYWAYS:

OK, then I'm gonna set a date... and then if there is a big problem with it, we'll shift it up or back accordingly.

I'm there. But I should also mention that 80% of our business within that city was gay content. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Ant, the fella I mention above is gay and his web cam business provided gay content. That fella I did work for up until a couple of years ago was for the same web cam business that Ant sold.

BTW, gay in the porn business does not include 'lesbian', believe it or not, that is still considered 'strait porn'. (I know I know)

As it turns out, August 8-10 is the only weekend in August where I'm already booked. All other weekends in the month are currently open for me.

Cool, updated the first post with offers of 15-17, which I *THINK* is still before school starts back up.

The only other band member I have so far can't make it unless it's the 22-24 or the 29-31.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that'll mess with school schedules. Although, so far I haven't heard from anybody involved with a school. (but the subject has come up in years past)

Ross, are you coming?

Anyone else involved with a school? That can't take a day or two off? It is a weekend. My friend has school-related stuff scheduled, and that's why it can't be earlier.

Highly unlikely but tempting. It would not interfere with school for me, but CA starts late compared to a lo of places and Universities in particular.

You could put us down as a maybe, hoblit. That is to say, if we were to go to a SongFight! Live this year that wasn't in Seattle, we would be just as likely to make it to Tampa on August 15-17 anywhere else on any other date. We just can't commit to anything right now, due to still catching up on the $ end of things after building the house.

So call us interested, but not committed. Doesn't help your head count, I know.

If there's room for a rider in the Tacoma, I could kick in for gas and it might be cheaper than plane tickets. Plus, ROADTRIP!

Holy crap, am I really this stupid? Apparently so... my middle boy Shannon's birthday is 8/16. I'm not likely to take any road trips that weekend. Count me out, I guess. Man, I'm an idiot.
