Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

Weekender: Friday, April 22nd thru Sunday, April 24, 2011

Post by JonPorobil »

Hey everybody!

Big news: I just turned in my two weeks notice at work this morning. After a series of frustrating disagreements with the upper management at my job, I began to search in earnest for greener pastures, and I finally got an offer from a reputable company willing to pay me what I'm worth. Dell Technical Support has picked me up for nearly double my current salary.

The new job starts on May 9th. My last day at the current grind will be on May 5th.

Question of the Weekend: What was your most recent major life change?

Nearly four years ago I moved from Seattle to San Francisco because my previous job had turned into a giant pile of stress with nothing but politics and backstabbing that were getting in the way of a product I believed in. The San Francisco job wasn't particularly exciting but it was at an established company with a track record of putting out great products and was in the process of rethinking the way it does business so it could do even better stuff, and I figured that moving to San Francisco meant that there would be many more jobs available to me when that job inevitably went south.

So far I'm still at that job and am doing fine, at least, although some of the same political crap has been happening a lot lately, as well as some of the other stresses that come from many elements in a large corporation getting Very Interested in a suddenly very-high-profile product and everyone wanting to get involved but nobody knowing quite how to do that in a useful way.

I'm not quite ready to jump ship just yet but there are some pretty interesting leads that have been poking themselves into my view, so who knows where I'll be in a few months.

Anyway, tonight I'm going to play some Portal 2.

I recently decided that I spend too much time wasting away on the couch (the restaurant I work at doesnt open till 5) and decided to get a second job... That lasted about 2 weeks when I realized that I had not had time to practice guitar, work on a songfight song, hang out, or much of anything other than sleep. I decided that music is what makes me happy, and even if I'm making all of $0.00 doing it, it is not worth the paycheck to live without it. So we can all look forward to plenty more BBABM music, though slightly less wealthy.

Congrats on the new job Jon! Moving up always feels good.

The receding ice age opened up both plentiful fresh water supplies and far greater variety in both flora and fauna, enabling me to pursue my true love...song fight. I mean carnivorous feasts. I mean a burgeoning career in the patent office.

I guess I could use a change.

QotWE: I suppose my last major decision was spending my entire life savings to buy a wrestling ring and turn my backyard fed into a real one. I basically have no choice now but to make this work. :D
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D
