Songs that work well with a looper?

Post by jb »

Just saw this linked on Reddit:

It seems to work as a loop song because it's basically just one chord pattern over and over, right? What other songs have you seen people do in this manner, and what other songs can we all think of that would work if they were covered via looper in this manner?

That's a good one. Actually I think there are a bunch of Talking Heads songs that are composed of one riff with different singing on top for the sections.

I think Swamp would be good but I couldn't find anybody doing it.

Here's an OK version of "Psycho Killer", but he only uses the looper for percussion which is kind of a waste:

This guy does a terrible version of "Burning Down the House" but proves the point:

Here's a guy just noodling over "Naiive Melody":

I recorded a song about an alien girl covering "I Saw The Sign" by Ace of Base. I don't have a looper, but I picked that song because of the repetitive groove and melody. The other reason was because of the contrast of Ace of Base and BLT style grungy ugliness. But I think it would be a good song for a looper.

Radiohead - Creep is an obvious one. It's just G B C Cm over and over again.

A whole bunch of my songs are very loopable, because I was going through a phase where I wanted to keep everything simple and loopable. I got bored with those songs after a while though.
