I was just reading about this. It will be interesting to see the flood of people posting their versions of these songs to Youtube and such.

He's got a "secret" show tonight in a relatively small for him venue. Sold out before I knew about it though, sadly.

Yeah, I just read it in SPIN yesterday. He tends to change completely with every new album. But this is an odd creative change. It's Beck, what can a guy like Beck do that hasn't been done before? This.

That is pretty darn cool.

Incidentally, the article mentions Sound Shapes, which is quite good. If you have a PS3 or a Vita I recommend it. The Beck tracks are the best part of it, too.

I just finished a version of "Old Shanghai" here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L72oenQ5_R0

Also received my Song Reader in the mail today (shipped early with no explanation) ... planning on doing at least a couple more.

That's great, Chips! I've been playing the song today as well, thinking about arrangements. I like this song. Bummed they don't offer a PDF of the full set...yet.

Some of the other recordings are quite awesome. Do We? We Do! isn't terribly original but people are doing nice things with it. Fortunately simply ignoring all renditions on uke makes it easy to weed out lots of mundane repeats.
