Make own album art (then song... FUN!!!!1)

Postby mr_lostman » Sat Jan 19, 2008 11:47 am

I was on this other forum and this game came up called "make your own album art" Naturally I participated:
Goes like this:

find a random wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Random
the name of the article becomes the name of your band (this would work so much better i you guys didn't censor wiki... )

find a random quote: http://www.quotationspage.com/random.php3
go to the last quote on the page, the last four words become the name of your album.

now find a picture: http://www.flickr.com/explore/interesting/7days/
use the third picture on the page as your album cover

put it all together in paint or photoshop or whatever you have.
and you get your album.

Now for an extra challenge I decided I would try and write the title track for this album (or any track really) based on what genre the album cover suggested.
For example, after a numberr of tries this came up and I decided to record it (click for mp3)

I would love to see what you guys come up with. Its not a required date of entry sidefight or anything, just some fun songwriting excercise. Give it a go and post your results. 8)

That's actually a pretty cool idea. I might give it a go in the next few days.

Heh! yes that is very cool. And that is a great looking album cover. Nice song too. I like the lyrics. Very laid-back.
I think that will make a fine ongoing challenge/side-fight.

For the last week I have been extremely tempted to record an album for FAWM using this exact method. I probably won't be able to even attemt FAWM this year, so someone else should do it.

I'm gunna FAWM and I was wondering where the titles would come from. This is it. I was also going to do it under a new band name - likewise sorted.

Though on the bandname issue - I thought I had a good one decided on, I was going to re-emerge as The Reverse Cowgirls - but bloody google showed me there is already 2 of those on Myspace. First Tex Beaumont, now The Reverse Cowgirls - is every name already taken?

If you want an original band name, you have to make it somewhat terrible and not particularly clever. For instance, right before this Purple Reign business, Google told me that there was already a Carbon Garden Records. Bummer. But it returned exactly zero results for "Chopped Liver Meat God." Victory.

I'll take a shot at this challenge at some point.

I haven't had a band name problem before, to be honest. There aren't many clamoring for the name sausage boy, or before that, Jonny Juice and the Good Time Boys, or before before that, Coathanger.
