Unlike Christmas where it was instead, "Well hey, the Pagans have a big celebration this time of year, so should we move our big celebratory event here and pretend it always happened this time of year? I guess we could also borrow a few things from Saturnalia while we're at it."

You ass, Christmas is the birthday of Jesus.

Ha.

That 'A Better Hope' site was fun to read, though a bit over-the-top in its attack of Santa.

I think it's dumb how people get so caught up in the history of Christmas - Christmastime in general is a wonderful time of year, and even though the history is a bit sketchy and it's not actually on Jesus' birthday, it's fair that people should have a day to celebrate the one they worship. Kids get days out of school for it anyways, and that's always a good thing.

Because Judaism as a religion shies away from glorifying military victories, because the Hasmoneans later became corrupt, and because civil war between Jews is viewed as deplorable, Hanukkah does not formally commemorate these historical events. Instead, it focuses on the Miracle of the Oil and the positive spiritual aspects of the Temple's rededication; The oil becomes a metaphor for the miraculous survival of the Jewish people through millennia of trials and tribulations.

I like "Cymbalta" myself. Would it be more ironic if that child were extremely chipper or always deep in a crushing malaise?

3. Paul McCartney and Wings, Red Rose Speedway
4+5. Moody Blues, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour/In Search of the Lost Chord
