I don't know if I want to make a song or a movie. I've never made a movie, but have made songs, so I'm going with the less "hard" choice.

...yes, song! Cha! :ugeek:

This is fantastic. Many years ago I began an as-of-yet unfinished project of recording a song for each of JD Salinger's Nine Stories. Nine Songs, if you will. Nine Stories was a piece of literature that inspired me to write (so far) two of my best songs as well as seeing me through some relatively (for me, at least) rough times. I love that book as much as you can love anything without a heartbeat.

So I've already written songs for the stories "Perfect Day For Bananafish", "Pretty Mouth and Green My Eyes", and "Uncle Wiggly In Connecticut." Ideas for "Teddy" are floating around, as well as some of the other tracks. The two that give me fits are "Down at the Dinghy" and "De Daumier Smith's Blue Period". I have no idea what to do with either one of these stories/songs. This fight title seems to neatly summarize "De Daumier." Really looking forward to this one!

I think my concept for this will be Sylvia Plath's last hours, as remembered by the old guy who lived downstairs from her. Sylvia and I have a bit of history.

Weird...I was going through long-neglected boxes last night, boxes left undealt-with for the last two house-moves, and came upon my old copy of this book? Going to read it again this weekend.
Anyway, yes, this fight looks intriguing.

Damn, how awesome to have you in our little song community. :P

It's funny, because I love independent films and I was just telling DJ a couple hours ago that I'll die happy if I can do a song that is used in a movie.

Thanks for the welcome, guys. Ironically, I hate most sports. The name comes from the Richard Ford novel, which I think is my favourite book of all time.

Sadly as a writer I have zero power to put a song in a movie, although I do get sent them from time to time...

This title really does have a cinematic feel to it, doesn't it? I tracked it down to the blurb for a 2003 novel called the Dogs of Babel

http://www.carolynparkhurst.com/writings.php

When his wife dies in a fall from a tree in their backyard, linguist Paul Iverson is wild with despair. In the days that follow, Paul becomes certain that Lexy's death was no accident. Strange clues have been left behind: unique, personal messages that only she could have left and that he is determined to decipher. So begins Paul's fantastic and perilous search for the truth, as he abandons his every-day life to embark on a series of experiments designed to teach his dog Lorelei to communicate. Is this the project of a madman? Or does Lorelei really have something to tell him about the last afternoon of a woman he only thought he knew? At the same time, Paul obsessively recalls the early days of his love for Lexy and the ups and downs of life with the brilliant, sometimes unsettling woman who became his wife.

Somehow the talking dog doesn't really do it for me.
