Complain about your schedule. Apparently people like that sort of thing.

So, who's going to be my friend if/when I move to Seattle? I have a serious job offer that's kind of a step down from where I'm at now, but it's kind of a step forward in ways.

I'm having a panic attack just thinking about uprooting my worthless life.

Discuss. And make me feel better.

Seattle is a great city to live in. If I could hit the rewind button, I'd certainly consider Seattle for my home base.
Aside from the gray winters, the weather in the pacific northwest is great. No humidity.
A short drive to Kurt Cobain's hometown. I once spent a winter there. It helps explain his writing.

Well, I wouldn't say there's NO humidity here, but it's certainly better than a lot of places. It's a bit higher than San Francisco, which always felt fairly humid to me having grown up in New Mexico, but compared to, say, New York or Austin or Washington DC or basically anywhere else east of the Rockies, yeah, pretty dry.

Am I going to kill myself during the winter?

Are there mosquitos?

The winter can get pretty dismal because of the limited sunlight (and what sunlight there is will mostly be blocked by clouds). It will definitely snow less than Madison though. Get a sun lamp and you'll be fine.

The summer has some mosquitoes but it isn't too bad.

I'm going to be visiting the next few days - interview on Thursday. I'll probably have all day Saturday if anyone wants to show me some of the ropes.

Seattle is awesome! If I ever left the SF Bay Area I would either move there or Boston. Nice cities with plenty of tech jobs and music, and the cost of living in Seattle seems pretty reasonable. If you move and you wind up not loving the job, I bet in the market right now you could probably find something else pretty easily too.

Yep, you hit the nails on the head Sam. Plenty of opportunity there, nicer weather, reasonable cost of living, etc.

So guys, with regards to my last message... am I experiencing the Seattle Freeze already? :)

What, you mean it being slightly overcast this morning? Trust me, it'll get lots worse. But still nowhere near as bad as Madison. :)

Oh, THAT'S what that's called.

Yeah, you do have to make an effort to make friends here. However, once you're in an established circle you'll trend to have it grow stronger all the time. It can take a while for it to build momentum though. Fortunately you already know a few people here, though, so you have a good head start.

Just bake some chocolate chip cookies or pot brownies. You'll have friends in no time. No one can resist the smell of baked goods. :P

False alarm. They decided they didn't want me, and my grandma is dying anyway so I better stick around for family. I had a great time in Seattle, though! Fun place.

Aw, dang, sorry to hear that.

But as always, if you do find a job listing at Amazon that you like, send me your resume and the req ID and I'll get you in the system as a referral.

Sorry to hear about your Grandma.

If it is any consolation (it probably isn't, but...) - I got a new job today! Hooray!

Still in Toowoomba. The "Seattle of the South". Well - it isn't very rainy - but it does get bloody cold. For Queensland. But I have escaped the government again! Hooray! I have had 2 years as a public servant - and now I am back to private enterprise. Hooray! Working mainly as a consultant to local government. But on private sector wages instead of government wages. Hooray!
