Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
My birthday is coming up very soon. To celebrate this, I have come up with an idea. I want to write lyrics for as many bands as I can for the next fight after The Rat Brain (the songs should come out around the time of my birthday if my estimates are correct). Would anyone be interested in helping me in this endeavor (i,e. being the bands I write the lyrics for)?

I'm in! Writing the lyrics is often the hardest part.

Count me in as Lunkhead. I'll check with Erin if she has time to try to do a Merisan entry too. Sounds like fun!

If the new title comes out soon, this sounds pretty cool... next week I'm on my own so more time for music.

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
Jerkatorium would love to use your lyrics for a song.
Having said that, we are the 7th band (or 8th, if you're going to submit a song for the Day of the Dead fight too) to request lyrics from you. That's a lot, especially considering everyone will want lyrics immediately so they can start putting them to music. If you're getting overwhelmed, we can retract our request.

Fear not, Jerkatorium. The urgency is part of the fun. And it's a good title. I can't wait to dig into it.

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
If you give me lyrics for this fight, I will write a song.
[EDITED] But that's a lot of lyrics. I don't know if you had this in mind, but I would also be willing to write an alternative song for the same lyrics you give somebody else. That could be interesting.

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
I've got drums, bass, acoustic guitars, and some lead guitar done. I could just do vocals and a solo and call it done, but, I'll probably sprinkle in some more stuff too (Rhodes, accordion, pedal steel, etc.). This is fun, thanks for the lyrics, Niv!

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
I started recording, with drums and some keyboard, and then I put down some (terrible) vocals so I could remember how I was planning to sing it. Good progress for the first day! Thanks Niv.
Question: how do we credit you? New bandnames? feat. Niveous? Just in the id3 tags somewhere?

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
That's a good question. My plan was to just put "lyrics by Niveous" in the Composer id3 tag. Options like "feat. Niveous" or "with Niveous" seem misleading to me, since that most often means that the person being feat.'d can be heard on the track. (Of course, if someone were to sample Niveous... but that would be ridiculous.) Although I do kind of like the idea of something like, say, Niveous Presents Heuristics, Inc., Niveous Presents Lunkhead, and so on. I dunno, I'll wait for a verdict from the man himself and go along with that.HeuristicsInc wrote: Question: how do we credit you? New bandnames? feat. Niveous? Just in the id3 tags somewhere?

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
I'm okay with just a mention in the id3 tag
But if y'all wanna go the Niveous Presents route, I think that's awesome.
Popular vote from the bands who are participating should be the decider: composer id3 tag or "Niveous Presents (your name here)"?

Re: Niveous' Lyrical Marathon
Well, there is sort of an historical precedent of using "... with (collaborator)" from the "Postcard" fight. Several folks collaborated with Patrick Clayton of The Suzies.
http://sfjukebox.org/fights/postcard
Dan with Patrick Clayton
Doctor Worm with Patrick Clayton
etc.
In spite of that, I personally prefer crediting in the ID3 tags, since for now a song can only be associated in the official archive with just one artist. As a listener and browser, it's nice to be able to see all the songs of the "primary" artist under their name, even if some songs are collaborations. But I'll go with the crowd consensus if there is one.
Some day we will add the ability to specify a "secondary" artist or to credit multiple artists somehow...
