SpinTunes 18 #1 - 'Color Me Impressed'
Round 1 for Spintunes #18 -
Green with Envy
Boffo Yux Dudes
I don’t mean to color your attitude
But lifting her style is all that it took
You are nothing but platitudes
Green with envy is not a good look
One piece of the rainbow is enough for me
Did I choose the right slice? We’ll wait and see
She was my queen, I am your pawn
You red my mind, and now I go on
I don’t mean to color your attitude
But lifting her style is all that it took
You are nothing but platitudes
Green with envy is not a good look
The color of money, the weight of love
Did you really think we’d walk the aisle hand in glove?
You’re getting mad, and I’m getting sick
Convincing me that you were her’s a pretty good trick
Look through my eyes the frequencies
You’ll see she was more than monochrome
You can’t replace what you can’t see
Green’s not a color it’s a shade of home
You color my eyes, she colored my world
A burst of enveloping prismatic light
The image you project is not hi-res
Love’s not a game of black and white
I don’t mean to color your attitude
But lifting her style is all that it took
You are nothing but platitudes
Green with envy is not a good look
The green in your eyes as it fades to black
Doesn’t quite convince me that she’s never coming back
If you can’t be her, then I can’t be me
Rather than spend my time with you I think I’ll wait and see
I don’t mean to color your attitude
But lifting her style is all that it took
You are nothing but platitudes

Phlubububub - Indigo
In her studio she works so diligently
Preferring solitude, with a brush in hand and a pile of cds
The kitchen window is a spring of inspiration
The same scenes bathed in different light
Depending on the time of the day
Or the month of the year
Or the weather
The sky was painted indigo
She imbued it with a subtle glow
The shimmer of the sun on the edges of clouds
Speaks to me but not to the crowds
I would be proud to call it my own
Display it at home
She ran a booth at the community market
Next to the one with the artisan soaps
Nicely in the shade with a blanket of grass in front of the topiaries
The folks come and go but no one lingers for long
Are they disinterested or simply not paying attention?
Or do their tastes differ from my own?
All I know is I'm enthralled by the masterwork I find before me
The sky was painted indigo
She imbued it with a subtle glow
The motion of the breeze captured in the leaves
From the grass blades to the trees
Held the key to my enjoyment

Stacking Theory - This Pale Blue Dot
riots at the top of town.
they’re pissing on our hallowed ground
it’s not a point that’s hard to grasp
they’re fascists with a union mask
hi-vis on denim blue
they’re stashing cash on foreign shores
they’ll take what’s theirs and also yours
it’s not a point that’s hard to grasp
they’ll eat first and you’ll eat last
sailing on oceans blue
we are nothing
just a stain on this pale blue dot
we are nothing
just a stain on this pale blue dot
just a stain on this pale blue dot
give it time, a hundred years or so
you will find the arseholes come and go
be resigned, there’s nothing we can do
just drift along on this dot of pale blue
the sun comes up the sun goes down
an empire falls - the earth rebounds
it’s not a point that’s hard to grasp
because we know this too will pass
our dot of palest blue
we are nothing
we are nothing
just a stain on this pale blue dot

Silver Elite
Lichen Throat
I glimpsed Suzie from my seat,
Fluffy slippers on her pedicured feet.
I heard she only sleeps on planes,
Up in first class, sipping champaign.
Platinum-level frequent flier club,
Gold embossing on her ticket stub.
Well, I don’t fly like a movie star,
But I spend my share of time in planes and cars.
I’m only silver elite,
Lucky if I get an exit row seat.
Thirty thousand miles a year
Isn’t good enough to get me free beer.
I’m not the guy with a million miles,
Or the anxious first-timer on the aisle.
I see the golden ones in the front,
But I feel out of place with the chumps.
I’m in the club, but I don’t get many benefits.
I don’t understand the point of the membership.
It gives me hope for something more,
But I’m still stuck where I was before.
I’m only silver elite,
Lucky if I get an exit row seat.
They handed me a silver card,
But I’m not part of the avant-garde.
Limbo’s kind of nice, but it’s still in Hell,
A climate-controlled aluminum shell.
I’m only silver elite,
Lucky if I get an exit row seat.
I don’t pay baggage fees,
But no extra room for my knees.

Kintsugi by Sober
She looks at me through blue and green
All the heartache she has seen
When she cries the sky turns red
All alone inside her head
When she calls my name I come runnin we can sleep all day
And hold each other, it's a goddamn shame I don't know any other way to be
She looks at me through blue and green
All the heartache she has seen
Pull the shades and paint it black
All the things you can't take back
It's the way we spoke, the sum of all the ways we're cracked and broke
We find a way to mend the gaps and holes, and let ourselves become the seams of gold
She looks at me through blue and green
All the heartache she has seen
Soft focus, black and white
Through the glass and through the night
The bayou's up, the sky is gray
Rain rain go away
She looks at me through blue and green
All the heartache she has seen
When she cries the sky turns red
All alone inside her head

Pulp by See-Man-Ski
I come to your place
you've got eggs, bacon, sausage, toast
and a nice cup of coffee
but there's just only one more thing I need
I want something fresh
I want something sweet
with a twist
I want pulp in my orange juice
there's much more to life than being silky smooth
I want the flesh from the orange fruit
I want texture, I want taste
don't make me say it again
I never want to separate
after a while you come over
and I start giving you lip
I snap my fingers and say
hey, you can't treat me this way
you take your time
read the room
and say
no
I want pulp in my orange juice
there's much more to life than being silky smooth
I want the flesh from the orange fruit

don't make me say it again

Chartreuse
(Widow’s Kiss)
By Cavedwellers
Pale green or pale yellow
It’s all the same to me
It’s all the color of the foulest jealousy
It’s all the color of my own complexity
It’s all the power of yearning
The payback I’ve been earning
If I was in your shoes
Drinking your chartreuse
French brandy at your lips
A deadly Widow’s Kiss
Poison on your tongue
Setting like your sun
I’d remember what I said
I’d rather you were dead
Arsenic and lace
The cloak and dagger mine
Surviving is the only solace that I find
The hemlock and the hemp rope
And the bitter herb
I only give you justice
Please remember just this:
If I was in your shoes
Drinking your chartreuse
French brandy at your lips
A deadly Widow’s Kiss
Poison on your tongue
Setting like your sun
I’d remember what I said

Re: SpinTunes 18 #1 - 'Color Me Impressed'
Cobalt, and Fading
by Brother Baker
Stuck, I’m getting lost in the sky
Stuck, I’m like a mirror inside
Clear, bright, empty and blue
Blink twice, and I lose the hue
Gray, the fog that clouds in my mind
Gray, the shapes that obscure the sky
I try to grab the silver lining
It blurs, and I am finding
The colors are mixing
I long for vibrance,
I can’t find it
I feel like Cobalt
With no warmth
Stalled, I start to feel the luster fade
Stalled, I see the silver shift to gray
And behind, the endless blue
Keeps losing its vibrance, too
Wishing shades of gray would end
Trying to embrace the blend
I am so much more than blue
With silver and gray streaked through
And still they keep mixing
I long for vibrance,
I can’t find it
I feel like Cobalt
With no warmth
I want to shine,
I want to show the world everything that I can be
But when I try
Each breath feels like breathing cobalt toxicity
I long for vibrance,
I can’t find it
I feel like Cobalt
With no warmth

"Slate" - Timothy Patrick Hinkle
Everyday the sun returns with yet more things to do
It won’t listen when I say I’d rather stay in bed with you
The sky’s been clear so it stays here, leaving the clear sky blue
I know how the sky is feeling, I’ve been feeling that way too
So I pray—
that the sky will turn to grey
when tears can flow they’ll wash away
sorrow’s chalk from my slate of grey
Everyday the air’s dry fingers grope at my bare skin
It knows it’s too hot in my blankets; it grins it’s salacious grin
It knows the stars were watching, when they fade it will begin
And I have no way to escape it, while I breathe I’ll never win
Please don’t dig for a silver lining
When grey through the sky is blown
Leave off mining for more shining
The sky and I will cry alone
Everyday the ache inside expands to fill the space
Burnt in by sun, clawed out by air—living will life erase
Kindly obscured by dark clouds, my composure I’ll unlace
And let a small measure of sorrow leak away out of my face
Everyday the sun returns with yet more things to do
It won’t listen when I say I’d rather stay in bed with you
