For a couple of entries last year, I used the band name "Escapegoat" for a couple of failed experiments in the "Another Mystery Solved" and "A 9/11 Every Day" fights. Just recently, I realized that someone else had already used this band name long ago, and my entries are grouped with theirs in the music archive. (My failed experiment in the upcoming fight will be submitted under the band name "Dessert Tortoise.") I feel bad about causing this confusion. Is there any way this could be somehow disambiguated to avoid the original Escapegoat being associated with my nonsense? Feel free to just delete my Escapegoat songs, if that makes things easier.
And to whoever the real Escapegoat is, please accept my apologies for tarnishing your good name.

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name
As one half of the duo that was Escapegoat I was finding this slightly annoying, but not monumentally so. Wasn't the first time a name's been duplicated, won't be the last, and it's not like we were really using it anyway.
So, if FM3 wants to make the name change in the archive it's his prerogative.

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name
For those keeping score, Escapegoat was me and Patrick Clayton. One of the first email-based song collaborations to happen in Song Fight!, I think. When we submitted the song the mp3 that got posted was corrupted so nobody could hear it for the vote. Oh well.

I mean if I'd cared I'd have posted a comment about it. It's extremely no big deal at all.

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name
You know, I've never checked the archive to see if a band name was used before. Not that too many people want to be associated with a pigfarmer.

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name
Other examples of duplicated band names within Song Fight have been Feldspar and <3.
Outside of Song Fight!, band names get duplicated all the damn time. So many people have released music as “Sockpuppet” now, which is supremely annoying because I did a thorough diligent search to make sure the name wasn’t in use first. There’s also The Cardigans, and one time I asked bandcamp if they kept stats on the most reused band names and they had a list of dozens of names each being used by like 10 different bands.

Re: Inadvertent Duplicate Band Name
I'll try to do something about this eventually. Using a different band name for the newer Escape Goat will likely be the easier option. Removing entries from the archive is a surgery that sounds less appealing to me to have to do on the archive data.
