Isn't Water Awesome?

Post by Plat »

This has probably been discussed somewhere long ago, but: Isn't water awesome?

Yes, practice, plug-ins, and quality gear are all important, but I'm amazed at how just a day or two's excess consumption of water can add sparkle and control to vocal tone.

Plus it's so inexpensive to use, and (relatively) readily available.

Can anyone else speak to this, or have I been brainwashed by the water cult?

Does this include tea or coffee? I can drink truely vast amounts of tea, but water is just so....it doesn't have any...well...tea in it.

Nevermind. I'm off to make a cup of tea.

My interpretation of the water cult (in this case, represented by Roger Love of "Set Your Voice Free" book fame) is that coffee and tea are not the same as water, because the magic is in the hydration. Tea and coffee contain caffeine (in varying amounts, even for decaf) as well as other substances like sugar and milk that phlegm up the vocal cords.

So he would say they're not the same, but they're okay as long as you don't overdose (e.g. one cup of coffee to get started in the morning is OK) and you still drink lots of water in addition.

I drink loads of bottles of water if I have a choral-y concert type thing, so yes, I agree that water's awesome.

I concur about water being awesome. For me, I find that it clears up my nasal passages a bit, thus making it easier to sing.
