Jesus Christ! Why have I never ever been fucking told about this shit! It's not like I don't have a couple hundred God damn posts on the fucking message board and more than a dozen tracks on songfight or anything!

Hm. Well, it's not like I was thinking "That Marcus Kellis, I definitely don't want to invite him".

I figured this sort of issue would eventually come up and the best way I can deflect it is to say that if I just advertise on the board, the person being covered will obviously see it and it won't be much of a secret. Plus, it's pretty hard to manage and babysit and nag people. Nobody is stopping you from putting one together yourself. As far as the people that were invited, many of them have some connection to either Johnny or Ken. Some were invited because they always come through when asked and never flake. Some were asked because they are new and had never been asked before. And some were asked just for the hell of it.

If I'd known it meant so much to you Marcus, I would have asked you.

If you (or anyone else for that matter) would like to participate in one of these in the future, send me an instant message and I'll invite you next time.

I'm not trying to be exclusionary with this. It's about giving people something for nothing, so check the selfish attitude at the door.

Don't sweat it Santa.

I think that you organized this whole thing, for TWO wicked and prolific SongFighters is kick ass. There are always people who will feel left out needlessly.

BRING THE LOVE KELLIS. BRING IT!

I think these are seriously awesome! Congrats to both J$ and Ken for being targeted in this musical love-in, very much deserved for both of you guys.

Lovin' the love here.... :)
Be happy!

I was being angry that I wasn't told about this one, but also nobody ever got around to telling me about any of the other Hxaros we've had. Ken played in my band in Austin and I'd say I'm buddies with both him and Cashpoint. My computer is busted at the moment but I will try to bring the love in a timely fashion, anyway. It's not an issue of selfishness and I realize that on the Internet everything seems obtuse, especially when laced with profanity; I was bummed and angry that I wasn't aware there was this event honoring two of my SongFight friends, an opportunity I would've liked to have had. I do appreciate, and I am sure that Ken and Cashpoint appreciate, the effort you have put in, but this isn't selfishness, it's that I'm disappointed I was overlooked and missed out on this. I dunno. I find it hard to give good phrasing to what I mean.

No worries Marcus. I'll gladly let you know the next time one of these comes around, whenever that may be. Feel free to add your own song to this thread if you like.

I assure you that no slight is or was intended towards anyone.

Perhaps Santa was concerned that you would deliver a cover for which you wouldn't bother to learn the lyrics, chords, or structure for the song you were covering.

i really enjoyed everyone's contributions. a few random musings after having listened to this a number of times already..... the redmons....man, way to think outside the box....both really good tunes........ king arthur, you rule, great production and that country diddy would make hank williams sr. or lyle lovett proud....... JB, excellent rendition of shreds, and really awesome recording of guy and guitar at it's finest...... balls to monte, always a huge pleasure to see you in a sort of virtual way........ same with the idiot king, who i don't think has ever done a primarily acoustic tune on SF before....... and loyalty day, who brings a truly stunning and inspired version of 2 bucks and i'm yours. something about sam and covers..... heuristics inc....best singing i think i've heard from you. great job...... bell green....awesome stuff, reminds me of frankie big face......and deshead, man you should be fucking signed. absolutely killer......

hell, everyone here did a really fine job. i'm thrilled to have had the chance to honor 2 outstanding songfighters, but beyond that, 2 outstanding guys who have given so much back to songfight in so many ways, organizing smaller live shows so that people can meet and play together. in many ways, you both have brought this global community of artists together and made it more personal and the experience richer for us all and for that i thank you.
