Inspired by Santa Cruz nights of yore, I hearby proclaim a Yacht Rock cover fight. We shall interpret the output of that famed period of Smoooooth rock music (1976-1984) immortalized in the award-winning Channel101 series, and further explained in a wikip entry. Significant artists include:
    Kenny Loggins
    Loggins & Messina
    Christopher Cross
    Toto
    Doobie Brothers
    Hall & Oates
    Michael McDonald
    Steely Dan
Other genre-appropriate artists and songs may be considered, subject to discussion on the thread, and ultimately resting on the capricious approval of the organizer (me).

EDIT: NEW DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 13

Who's in? Seahorse crew, I better hear an "aye aye" or three from your quarters!

EDIT: Here's a complete list of all the covers as of OCT 5, as well as artists that have been excluded from coverage for Insufficient Yachtiness.

Journey
Steve Winwood
Michael Jackson
80's synthy songs in general

Totally was!.....was amazed to see they were the majority of tracks for episode 6...never placed JT with the other acts listed and as I never saw the show until now on there I will have to watch to understand why Episode 6 is dominated by their music.

I'm much more of a Toto man myself

Okay after some study I'd like to stay true to my British roots and make a claim for the inclusion of 10CC (pre Godley and Creme departure) and if allowed would you let me bring "I'm Not in love" to the fight. I await the adjudication of the coverfight mistress.

Wow, that song's TOTALLY smooth... and features plenty of studio wizardry! Put on your captain's cap, Stuey!

no! i did appropriate some "danny's song" a couple years back (Why Are You Making Me Kick You Out?, a favorite of 15-16 puzzle and his sister), but "Reelin' in the Years," "Black Water" (Doobie Brothers), and "Love Will Keep Us Together" all seem solid. I'll send it out to a committee and hold some hearings, maybe go to Camp David for a week and mull it over.

I have no idea what you are talking about, but the mentions of Jethro Tull peak my interest. So is Tull a viable option, and if so, I would love to do a Jethro Tull song.

We're in, but I don't know what song we'll do. Whatever it is, I pray to God that it's smooth.

I claim no specific songs at this moment, but don't be surprised if I cover multiple songs, as I have a fondness for this smooooooth music.

...Although I have got to say that it was genius for the makers of Yacht Rock to feature "Portable Radio" by Hall and Oates, as it is one of the worst songs they ever made. I actually covered a song by H&O that I really like back in 2003. A song called The Girl Who Used to Be.

:)

ROCK!

Erin's going to do either "Kiss On My List" or "Maneater" by Hall and Oates.
