Some General Thoughts About Nerdcore
I am fucking tired of it. I am tired of seeing posts about it on Slashdot, on BoingBoing, on Digg, etc. etc. I'm tired of lots and lots of mediocre nerdcore on SongFight! I like MC Frontalot, and wish him all the best, and the whole thing was pretty damn funny back when it was just a joke, a schtick for one performer. But now people are actually taking it seriously, way too fucking seriously. Not to single you guys out, and nothing personal, but it's sad to me that the EPP can enter a fight with a song that's just a big in-joke with rhymes about poop and other grade school level humor and get 40-50 people to show up and vote for them because they're "tied in" to the "nerdcore community". WT? "nerdcore community"?! The fact that there seriously is such a thing makes me feel like the genre has officially jumped the shark.
Anybody else have any thoughts on the nerdcore phenomenon? Anybody want to go start "bullycore"? I'm tired of these nerds! Somehow even though I'm a bit of a nerd I feel like Ogre from "Revenge of the Nerds"...

Whatever...
But I just recently learned what "jump the shark" means (I know, and I was a 70s kid...it's not right) but I gotta say that's the best phrase EVER! Thanks for using it, even though I don't think it's correctly applied here.

I've seen "life metal" used as another term for emocore. (a derrogatory term)jack wrote:wait until i bring the "life-metal" (the opposite of death-metal).
life-metal is going to rule.

There's always going to be something new around the corner. One side of me agrees with Lunk on this, but the other side says, "why bother". Don't get me wrong, I'm a fighter, but I pick my battles and this one is not for me, because I respect any person(s) that passionately believe in something, no matter how I personally feel about it. I do find it odd that when I friend flooded, before I knew what it even was and that it is shunned upon here, I was mentally and verbally persecuted. But it is accepted and ok for the nerdcore. But at least the group I brought over also voted for other SF'ers too. But, again, it is what it is and I'm going to keep doing what I do, write and make music I enjoy. I just wanted to get that off my chest.
Lunk, I'd like to see you put together a revenge band. You seem passionate about it, so it would probably rock the f**k out of nerdcore!!
Now back to trying to get my "tw3rp" song done by the deadline. I can't seem to make it jump out, does anyone want to rap some nerdwords on it?

Alright, I guess the "grade school level humor" thing was pretty snobby, my bad. Like I said, I have no ill will against the EPP personally. The in-joke comment was definitely true, though. In the reviews, the regular SF! participants were all saying, "Uh, whoTF is Benjamin Bear?" I probably would laugh if one of my friends made a rap full of poop jokes about one of my other friends, but without knowing any of the people involved, it's just not that funny to me. Anyway, I don't want to single you guys out. I'm more thinking of the fact that there are only so many nerdy culture references people can make. Do we really need any more raps about video games, RPGs, science/math, being unpopular, hating jocks, etc.? It's just kinda played out at this point. At least MC Frontalot covers more different territory sometimes. One of my favorite songs of his is "I Heart Fags" which has nothing to do with being nerdy.

I am going to start a birdcore rap group. All songs will be about bird related topics. Deep Throat, please consider "Nest Building" and "Eating 'dem Worms" as possible titles.
Also, I agree that nerdcore is annoying and I was sick of it after I first heard it. It is the musical equivalent of ytmnd, which is the internet equivalent of poop jokes on bathroom walls.
