Death Proof/Planet Terror

Post by Billy's Little Trip »

OK, I guess we better get this one out of the way. I've been waiting for the Grind House anthology to come out for rent. I just saw the first of the two, Death Proof starring Kurt Russel, Rosario Dawson.

The second part is Planet Terror starring Freddy Rodriguez, Rose McGowan.
No release date on Planet Terror.

My wife hates these kinds of movies and pretty much anything from Quentin Tarantino. I, on the other hand, love this stuff. All the craziness, action, music and long over winded dialog. It's so refreshing to watch a movie that isn't all covered in Hollywood stank.

Now for my bitching segment. Why the hell do they make a Grind House anthology and not have it come as a double DVD set and release them together? Not that big of a deal, but damn, isn't that the point? Charge double if it's about money. But the purpose of a grind house feature is to get two crappy movies for the price of one.
Anyway, there, I said it.

Death Proof should have been better. Planet Terror was completely awesome.

I wonder if we got a sized down version of Death Proof. I liked it, but it just left me feeling like there should have been more. Like, the first girl in the car. It just seems like he should have been doing a few more "stunts" (avoiding a spoiler) before he "dropped her off", don't you think? At least jump the damn car a few times or slide sideways into a few walls. It's a damn movie for Christ sake, cars don't break in movies. Cha!

The DVD version is supposed to have 30 minutes of extra footage (compared to the theatrical release), but not like car chases or anything like that. Like 30 minutes of the boring shit.

Quentin is a fucking collage artist. Rodriguez has always turned in solid work. Also, isn't it a bit biased that this thread is called Death Proof?

I like both, Tarantino and Rodriguez, both for different reasons, but I've only watched Death Proof thus far, so that's why I titled this thread Death Proof. I wasn't planning on comparing Death Proof and Planet Terror. But then I remembered that polls are free, so at the last drunken minute, I put Planet Terror up tharr because it was the only thing I could think of...well, that and tacos.
I'll start a Planet Terror thread after I see it, and I promise to be just as biased on Rodriguez's side. How's that twist your nips?
