Oh yeah - am I being too 'uptight' or something? Surely a 'Your favourite Band OF ALL TIME' thread deserves a 'go have a wank' post? Or am I being ridiculous? Anything to get off-topic here, I feel

I don't think I could possibly think of one band that I would label as an all time favorite.

my first instinct was Prince, but that whole "one person is not a band thing" is true.. I just include that for completeness.

i'd say roxy music or primus

Well, you know where I am with Mr Eno, but I don't consider him a band. I interpreted this as a group of folks who "formally collaborate and make music together"...sort of like a band.
True, but I often say "band" when it really means "musical project." Yes, I abuse language!
On the other hand JB often has a Conspiracy so that's a band.

Gotta agree.

Asked right now, I would probably say The Melvins.

At various points in my life I would have said Fugazi, Clutch, and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

Gold.
Punk rock is for children. Grab a six-pack at Half-a-Dozen Records.

Give that man a coconut! They are sadly the only band for whom I've bought a ticket for a gig which I was unable to attend (I only realised after buying it) and I still regret not seeing them to this day. Oh what fun it would have been to sing drunkenly along to such classics as "Vatican Broadside", "Irk the Purists" and "Fuckin''ell, It's Fred Titmus", but I guess that was one occasion where life decided to screw me in the arse. Needless to say- best band name EVER.

First thought was Sabbath, but I think that was just because I was still reeling from watching one of the rejects on American Idol singing "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath". (shudder)

No legitimate answer to the question comes to mind.

I won't mock you, I always thought that they should carry a larger Punk Rock crowd..yet they seem to attract a more mainstream one.

I do not have A favorite band..howerver, if you would have asked me this when I was 18 years old...when I was borderline OBSCESSED with bands...then I would have struggled with these three:

Pink Floyd
The Cure
The Beatles

I still love these bands but I don't listen to them nearly as often and with as much passion as I once did.

Cake came pretty close when I was in my late 20s. But... no favorite band...can't narrow it down.
