I will make this work. If I have a car at that time it will be a perfect reason for a road trip, even if it means going through Los fucking Angeles.

Speaking of which! You might want to ask State Shirt, as he's nearby but I don't think he reads the boards very much (although I'm also not sure he'd be into doing an acoustic set).

Thanks Fluffy - yeah I pm-ed him awhile back, I think he's gonna try to make it.

And for Clarification - this does NOT have to be all acoustic, but we will probably keep it acoustic-sh untilt he restaurant closes and then go louder after that if necessary

does anyone have a PA they can bring?

If I drive I can bring my guitar amp and such. Not sure if it's enough to fill a venue though.

If fluffy is willing to drive down, I could probably supply a pretty serviceable PA to use. Not sure about the speakers, but I've got a good old Mackie 3 channel 600 watt job that's a workhorse. It's even been to Burning Man more times than I (5) have.

Of course that's a big IF, as in IF fluffy drives and has room for it. I was thinking of flying actually into LAX on Friday, getting a cheap car rental and driving to Long Beach, and flying back to SF the next day. It's about $130 to fly RT, and the car rental is about $30, and I could crash in my car if necessary. If I were to rent a car here and drive (which I considered), it would likely cost about $70-80 for the rental, another $60-80 for gas, and take me about 6 hours of driving each way minimal. So that's about the same amount either way. And it takes an hour to fly each way.

Still undecided, alot depends on work situation, but I am considering it and would like to make it. Still, if I can't make it or I fly, and IF fluffy drives, I can arrange for him to pick up my PA if you guys need it.

Yeah, assuming I buy a car and it has cargo space i'd be fine with swinging by Santa cruz to pick you up. It only adds an hour to the drive and id enjoy the company (as well as the scenery).

The Peninsula's the best place in LB to do that... Ocean Blvd, take it south, right fork @ Second Street, and find a side street down where Ocean ends. Salt breeze, tame surf noise, and down there ain't a party crowd area so it's quiet. Besides, if the night's right, you can walk the few steps to the beach and watch the shiny fishes jumping. Also a good beach for boomerangs, heh.

Well, fuck, I'll drive to Long Beach if it means meeting J$ and watching someone one-up me on ukulele. Color me there, unless I bail for family/job reasons (at this point, don't forsee either getting in the way.) I don't have a PA, but I have a strong willingness to buy J$ a lot of drinks to make up for it.

It is likely I will have a car by then, which is good because I'd much rather play on my own guitar this time. ROAD TRIP.

Bump!

Ok so Who's coming and what are you bringing/needing?

I don't have a PA.

Here's who I think is coming
J$
Ross Durand
Fluffy
Kasper
Minty Handy

Here's who I think "might" be coming.
Rabid?
Jack?
State Shirt?

I can bring some stands and mikes. I have a two channel keyboard amp I use for my solo acoustic gigs. I'll have my acoustic ( a dreadnought with medium strings on it) a preamp that works as a direct box.

Also - it is my understanding that I am obligated to host a bbq at my home the next day - so it is. Info will be distributed at the show. Are people up for a semi potluck/byob? What's the tradition on this?

I am coming - I have time off scheduled and everything. I will definitely be bringing:

* Ibanez acoustic guitar with built-in tuner and pickup
* Separate soundhole pickup which sounds way better than the built-in one
* Laptop and portable recording interface

I will probably be bringing:

* Jack
* Jack's PA (Jack, what are its dimensions? I need to make sure it can fit in my Fit)
* A music stand

I can bring, on request:

* Mic stands
* A medium-sized guitar amp
* An Epiphone semi-hollow-body electric guitar
* Various condenser mics (if we need to mic an amp or whatever, I guess - my only dynamic mic is a piece of poo, sadly) [EDIT] Actually my normal dynamic mic isn't that bad, and I'd forgotten I have a pretty decent ribbon mic.
* A ukulele
* A looper pedal
* A cello (there needs to be a DEMONSTRABLE NEED for it and this would be at the expense of some of the above)
* A sunny disposition (same caveat as the cello)

If you go, Jack? You better drag your hippy arse up to LA - I have already transposed '(Don't) Let It Be' to the ukulele in your honour.

Much as I would love BLT to attend, his lack of interest does at least make this thread a third of the size it would be and all the more readable as a result. :)

EDIT: Also, could I borrow a ukulele on the night from Fluffy or Minty Handy? I am worried about my pricey electric uke surviving the flight in the hold AND the interrogations by the border police at LAX. If not I'll source a cheap one when I get there. Cheers!

Ross: Highly unlikely at this point (barring sudden windfalls in the "I can retire at 40" amounts). Which is a shame 'cuz I'm dying for some SuperMex salsa.

Consider my crappy ukulele upgraded to the "will bring" list.

We'll probably drive and bring at least a guitar, bass and mandolin.

I also have a uke and a banjo that I probably won't bring but could if there's a need.
