Thoroughly mad idea this, but do you have any books-on-tape/cd rental shops down there in your neck of the woods?
If so, rent & rip the bloody things already Cheaper than buying the cds, and just maybe you can unload or regift the tapes somewhere...
...or tweak them up and use the backward masking for an under-track for a song or few, eh? Dig the old-school backwards flange, heh.

This is Brisbane I'm talking about - not one of your fancy-schmancy overseas cities where they actually have stuff!
You can occaisionally get crappy old cassettes from the public library - but that's about it.
