Blasphemy!

Middle eastern pop, and the music videos that go along with them rock my freakin' socks off.

That said, "lite" jazz a la Kenny G and his ilk make me want to puke. On their mouthpieces. Before a sold-out show at the 'Garden.

I wasn't talking about all middle eastern music. Only the stuff my neighbor plays. It sounds to me like atonal wailing with kazoos in the background.

Here's my beef with lite jazz. It's almost like it's a type of music created mainly for the ease with which can ignore it, you know what I mean? It's the equivalent of white noise, something you just put on in the background so that there's something in the background.

My goal as a musician is to make the best damn background music possible. I'm well on my way. :D

Did you contravene your moral and musical integrity to make that $300? If so, your soul sells cheap; if not, you didn't sell out.

My favourite quote on this subject, pertinent-ish too -

Well the song in question was made a year before it was used for the commerical. The director guy found it on mp3.com (back when it used to be a site for unsigned and underground artists) and used it, and then sent me the check. The truth is, I didn't have a choice in the matter. He could have used it and I never would have known, I was just lucky he was an honorable guy.
From spoken word to actual singing, I can screw up any style with style. :D

quite simply: receiving money is "selling". "selling" and "selling out" are definitely not synonymous.

A lot of people seem to think they are ... also - when people start to sell, from what I can tell, they tend to sell out a bit just to please the public or rile them up just so they keep selling ... that's just my opinion though.

top 40 is all like 'these are the only 40 songs that you should ever have to listen to at any given time' which is such complete and utter shit.
