Gotta say, I've been listening to the song I'm going to cover (haven't had time to start yet) all day today in my car, and I am really friggin' pumped to do this. I can start on Tuesday.

Due by: Dec, 12th Sunday
Fighters who have expressed interest in doing a cover so far:

Puce - Just A Toy - [Born on a Pirate Ship]
The Cow Exchange - (?)Possibly - Alcohol - [Stunt]
Jim Tyrrell - When I Fall - [Born On A Pirate Ship or Rock Spectacle]
Jim of Seattle - (?needs to pick)
tviyh - Spider In My Room - [Born On A Pirate Ship]
Denyer - These Apples - [Maybe You Should Drive or Rock Spectacle]
Frankie Big Face - ? - [?]
prayformojo - Trust Me - [Shoebox EP]
Poor June - The Flag - [Gordon]
GlennCase - It's all been done - [Stunt]
feldspar - Light up My Room - [Stunt]
TV's Kyle - Go Home - [Maroon]
maasman - ?

Challenge has been extended to:
sonofsupercar - This Old Apartment - [Born On A Pirate Ship or Rock Spectacle] - (come on and Bring it Blue)

EDIT: Updated list with songs and added TV's Kyle

I don't know how up to date this list is... but I just wanted to bring it back up. I'm not going to herass anyone to be done by the 12th, but it would be nice if more than just Glenn got a song covered. Due to my unemployement and tight budget I will not be able to burn CDs and print out labels for everyone that does a cover, right away. I'm hoping once my job situation improves I will get back on the ball.

Thanks,
bort

...when your employment situation improves -or- when everyone has their songs done, whichever comes second :?

personally, i intend to spend this weekend working on mine and i hope to have it done by sunday but i can't absolutely guarantee it.

(oh, and whenever all the songs DO end up trickling in, i'm sure i wouldn't mind tossing a few bucks your way for putting together a cd, and i'd be willing to bet most other people wouldn't mind too much either)

I think we should just call this an on-going project for now, so the presure is off for the holidays. I'm not going to twist any arms to get songs out of all of you guys. I really enjoy all of your music so I'd rather this be fun for you than me herassing everyone to do a BnL cover.

Thanks to you all for your interest in this side-fight.

I should be done by the 12th. I just got rid of everything I've done so far and started again so I guess I've made progress.

I recorded guitar and bass on Tuesday, only to find out on Wednesday that they were both (!) out of tune. I've got a couple finals coming up, as well as some other obligations, so I might be a tad late. I had to learn how to play chords to record this  , so I'm not giving up now. It's been months since I made a song; I'm so out of the groove that it's taking me forever just to get this thing started.

my bigger problem is still just finding a right tempo... somethin' that i can sing with... because i'm having to do it on piano... it's probably not goin' be the greatest or sound a big deal like the original... but i'm gonna atleast try to keep a relative pace...
and keep the same chord progression most likely... as far as i can hear from the music itself...

i may be a lil' late... but i'm gonna try to have it done as soon as possible... cause it's drivin' me batty that i can't figure out what i should be doing... the verses aren't fitting into my speed right... so i gotta change how i'm playin' it at the moment...

I'm still in this, too. Maybe by the twelvth. Possibly. Otherwise, I doubt I'll be able to finish untill sometime next year. So we'll see. I'm still working on it, though.

denyer: an interesting take on the song... i don't see why it shouldn't be included in the compilation! i like the chorus vocals especially (or i dunno if it's the chorus or what.. the "not trying to sing a love song" part).

frankie: didn't recognise it from the title, but this is one of my favourite of their songs... and it seems to work really well for you. (in fact, i kind of found the original to be a little *too* orchestrated, and i think i might like your stripped-down version better.)

Wow this is great. I like the vocal style you brought to this song. Even on a limited time as you said, you did a great job. My wife did say it sounded too much like you were going straight for the original sound, and not adding enough of your own touch to it. Which makes sense to me, but I still think it came out quite well.

Hey that's pretty fun and I enjoyed it.

But I do have to say one thing, that sound of what I assume are bongos, sounds a little off beat at times. Kind o like extra background noise that wasn't exactly supposed to be there. How are you mic-ing them if you recorded them yourself? They seem to be missing that Kick of a bongo hit, and the times when they are off the beat they stick out as alittle odd to me.

Overall it's really good and I thank you for having a go at this sidefight.
