Movies I watched when flying to/from Spain

Really well done, old fashioned feeling movie. I guess that was due to the PG rating but also it just felt like it used a classic formula of emotional beats and plot points, but not in a way that felt cheap or ham fisted to me. They also didn't go into some of the truly horrific things that happened back then but they still managed to convey some of how disturbing the racial environment was. Great performances and competently well directed. A

We saw this in the theater and really enjoyed it.
After the show we looked up a lot of the actual historical stuff and it was more or less true, although not everything happened at the same times as in the film.

This movie didn't know what it wanted to be. It threw in some Civil Rights callouts as non-sequiters. It threw in some romance sequences, again, for no reason. The threads didn't tie together. The characters were compelling in theory, but thinned out so that Hollywood could meet their yearly quota in a single film. The resulting "hot" scenes felt hamfisted because the narrative was poorly done - as if Aaron Sorkin wrote a film but had no talent. Once you stripped it down to the actual plot - which felt like an afterthought - the climax was about as exciting as the King's Speech. Solid C-.

Sam, I'm starting to think we shouldn't be dating.

Sorry, what? I stopped reading everything you wrote after you declared "Ass.'s Creed" the best movie of 2016.
