Starfinger
This is fun. Very cute music. I always think that a Starfinger + Octothorpe song would cause the universe to implode. You sound like you're having fun.
The Reese Witherspoons
This is fun. The guitar is doodley-fun. I like the build up you've got going.
Heuristics Inc
Beepy-good.I'm always impressed by people who do proper lyrics in skirmishes. It's so easy to just get a chorus and repetez. "Aw shucks"? Cute.
Bjam
C'est moi!
Future Boy
Very pretty keys. Interesting lyrics too. Very nicely done for 60 minutes.
Roymond
This is good, but I don't dig the genre much.
Caravan Ray
This sounds like your songs every week, but it's fun in a 'hilbilly rock or rollish romp through Australia' kinda way
I dig this.
The Bovine Recyclery
(I'm guessing this is your's? 2:24? Way to not tag it
) Sha-la-freaking-las. This is awesome, if you produced this really nicely and rocked out and made it 'shiny' sounding, this'd rock.
The Voice in Your Head
Mandolin, ftw. Can't really understand the vocals, but the lyrics look fun.
Jason
So cute.
Bolio
Bassy. Sounds porn groovey at the beginning. Goes into a pretty cool song.
Good job everyone for doing awesome songs in 60 minutes.

reese w.: he has sex with dogs? i like the production on here a
lot, but as a song it leaves something to be desired. regardless,
it is fine skirmish material!
h.inc: i like the music a lot- great synth tones, especially that
resonant synth part. the vocals are not bad. the song is cool.
bjam: your voice is sexy on this. the lyrics seem like a real
song, and the guitar playing is real good. i likey.
future boy: that rhodes is sweet, and the lyrics are great. this is
really pretty, but so dark.. great combination.
roymond: this is an awesome wall of sound. very experimentally
groovy. sweeeet.
caravan ray: this does sound a lot like your typical fight. very
good for an hour. i love the backing vocals. and the guitar tone
is really cool.
bovine: this is an amazing hour's work. holy crap, it's great.
what are your instruments -- are they softsynths? that bassline is
particularly awesome.
tviyh: the angular mandolin riffs work great in such a stark
setting. it reminds me of pere ubu. your voice has an interesting
sound to it, but maybe you're too close to the mic or something.
the end ditty is pretty funny. good job.
jason: your lyrics are awesome. the production is a bit minimal,
but it works well with the childish tone of your voice. ultracute.
bolio: this music is awesome. kind of a funky pink floyd vibe. i
especially like the drums and that organ. this is really good,
conspicuous latecomer..

jason - CUTE. i don't know if this is normal, but i'm impressed that he made a rhyme even if it is the same word.
future boy - man, the rhodes is nice. dunno about the words tho.
tviyh - your mandolin playing reminds me of something. heh lp. first time use == cool. good, but i'd tighten up the timing on the mandolin
bovine - do you have a full band on this? guess you have at least two, from the vox. how did you make something that sounds this good in one hour? catchy and good. one-handed model friends?
bjam - the "oh my god" bit is pretty odd. i like the speedup part. and the ending is great "correct" hahaha.
roymond - wild stuff. "philanthropic czar" is good. i find myself wanting to hear it again, which is probably a good sign. that intro is awesome.
caravan jason - now this is great. i like this with music. in the spirit of the skirmish, did you spend an hour or less on the remix?
repeating the growly vocal is fun. one of my favorites, but alas i believe it is not eligible for voting.
caravan ray - i like this. rockabilly? i do like the end. yeah the very end is a bit abrupt. guess that's the problem with one hour
reese - cool intro. the staticy fake drum takes over the song, though, it's too much. the other drums are good. dogs? yuk! i like the fake ending.
starfinger - bark bark fun. this sounds remarkably full as well. love the rhymes. i see you are good at the show while i am bad. heh. some of these lyrics are really weird.
hinc - heh my wife wanted to write another verse but i stopped her. whoa, not enough time to sing all that! also, i accidentally deleted my first drums and had to redo them. luckily the new ones were better. i misaligned the organ on the third verse. i really ran out of time at the end, i couldn't even master it!
bolio - man, i totally missed that this existed. ok, let's hear it. hey, great organ. pretty cool, feels like a whole song.

I felt bad about using robot voice so I did another one today, which is here. It is about the same thing as my other one, which is Johnny Cashpoint, because no jerk has done him a theme song yet. I will do reviews of songs in about three hours.

Starfinger
I like the rhymes a lot but I don't like the chorus a lot. The thing that comes in at 1:10 is my favourite part of the instrumentation, whatever it is.
Heuristics Inc
I had to get headphones because I couldn't hear what you were saying on speakers. I like "aw shucks". Your low energy rapping is better than pigpen's.
Bjam
I always thought you were just a girl with a guitar but now I realise you are also good at doing the singing. I
'd when you said correct.
Future Boy
Fun story good keys a+ recomended seller.
Roymond
There is a lot of stuff going on for one hour. reminded me of Above the Law before the main guitar came in.
Caravan Ray
This is a very good song which I would not have thought could be done by one man in one hour but I am racist against Australians so I can't vote for you. Is everything played live throughout the song?
The Bovine Recyclery
long. My favourite part in this is the drums. I don't know if they are real but as with breasts, it doesn't really matter.
The Voice in(side) Your Head
This is a nice minimilistic entry and I like it, but do know how to play the mandolin? I think the 58 and half minutes of waiting for inspiration really paid off.
Jason
This is great. I really like that guitar solo and the horns in the background flow nicely with the rest of the song. jk but it is good. I like this kind of stuff. Usually with music though.
Bolio
This is good i like the vocals. It doesn't sound like you spent over an hour on the song but I would have thought research or whatever should have counted toward the time.
Caravan Jason
Good idea but not really interesting. nice work though.
(the price is right was one while I wrote these reviews)
I hope voting is not secret because I am voting for future boy with bjam a close second.

Fake drums obviously. the 2 guitars were played live - though not at the same time - but I made some mistakes at the end - which is why there are a few holes in the guitar bits. I meant to cut/paste the first verse again at the end but ran out of time. backing vocals were done once then cut/paste where needed.Denyer wrote:Is everything played live throughout the song?
but this is a 3-chord song about someone wanting sex. I don't think I've ever done that before. :lol:I thought I was really pushing the creative envelope here!Bjam & Starfinger wrote:sounds like your other songs
------------
STARFINGER: Nice vocals - especially in the chorus
REESE WITHERSPOONS: Great bandname! Pretty good - interesting sounds - I like the moaning woman sound
HEURISTICS: Nice simple backing music - and your vocal delivery is good. Some of those rhymes are a bit iffy - but under the circumstances that's excusable
BJAM: I really like this song. You definitely re-record a more polished version. Way too many repetitions at the end - they're not necessary (neither are StueyM's contributions

FUTUREBOY: I love these lyrics - just sensational. I'd love to hear Tom Waits sing this in a sleazy wine bar.
ROYMOND: Very busy sounding - a bit harsh for me
BOVINE RECYCLERY: This one really defies belief you did it in an hour! Though I'm certainly not doubting you. Those lyrics are just so great for the title - it must be fair dinkum. Are there more than one of you doing this? I would imagine that more than one person trying to coordinate together in that time would be quite chaotic. Great work.
TVIYH: This sounds like bare bones of what could be a pretty good song
JASON: Pretty nice effort. Shame my 2-year-old wasn't here to have a go too - now she's really talented...
BOLIO: Great groove on this. Love the sound of the vocals - great bass, great keys. Good song
ME: I wasn't happy with this at all - until I added that 2-note riff on the second guitar - now I love it! Lead vox need re-doing badly. No, they're already done badly - they need re-doing well.
I voted for the Bovines - though Future Boy was a very, very close second

Yeah, after the voting's over maybe I'll run a quick mix/eq/master on it and try to clean it up a bit. I figure it's not kosher to do it now, though.Denyer wrote: Heuristics Inc

Thanks re: rapping. Heh. Was all I could really do in the hour's time. Glad I got the rapping out of my system tho

So I am offically coming out of hiding to comment on this song just this one time until Eric starts actually playing music again... I think it was pretty impressive considering the following...
1) Since moving into this house in may of last year he's STILL not finished his music room project....
2) He has had this mandolin for like 4 months, never really played it, it was a gift from me (along with the drum kit he has yet to touch)
3) It was the week after the Steelers won the superbowl
and he's had to deal with me being in the best of moods. Instead of my usual moody and grumpy self Go Steelers!
4) It was inspired by the fight that we had earlier that day so I think its pretty sweet...
Hopefully this will inspire him to play his mandolin more often, it's one of my favorite instruments...
Just so you all know that Jason kid has a real future in techno... its already the best dance song I have heard in a long time! Great job!
(Just so you guys know Eric like totally started the first time to play his mandolin about 3 hours pre-sidefight but yeah he needs practice!)
So yeah that's all I have to say I will most likely go back to my corner now and watch from afar...
P.S. Looking forward to meeting all of you who are coming to the PA songfight thingie!
---thanks guys!

Starfinger - Cool, of course. The choruses are a litle waily, I guess - not out of tune but liek a mockery of hi-energy singing, I'd lieka few more words. But the warmth and pleasure pouring out of the speakers is something you're vrey good at capturing - there's a child-like joy of tooling around in a studio here that makes me smile. Good work,
The Reese Witherspoons - starts out like CEOT3rdK. Awesome early Cabaret Voltaire sound (with added orgasmic female vocals for added good effect) I like this a lot. This really the sort of music that gets me going
Bill - Wish the vocals were more forefront. In fact a little master of this would make it cool, but I shouldn't really talk about production. I love the groove, the way it sounds really fragile and yet funky at the same time.
Bjam - yeah cool. nice tone. If you were gonna re-do it I'd have a double harmony vocal on the chorus going high to really contrast the dips and swoops of the melody at that point. maybe the guitar could be EQ-ed to take out a little bit of the mid as well. but a very pleasant listen as always. Although I appreciate the end I think it would be better served gridning to a halt at 1.30. I like the sped up little voices too. A few more (maybe one or two more) dotted around just for the 'wha the f*ck' value.
Future Boy - Ahhh. Pretty. I wonder how you always manage to sound so camp when singing about women
This is good lounge-bar stuff, as the chairs are going on the tables and the drunks are slumping on their paper beermats, swizzle sticks snapping under their weight. Hoorah for mood.
Roymond - fantastic opening. This is bonkers and I love it. the ever shifting dynamics throw me off and draw me in simultaneously.
Caravan Ray - This is very structured for an hour - I am impressed. Gutiar tone ehre is betetr than some of your SF entries - not as heavily distorted and therefore bassy, which gives it a lightness which carries along the bouncing mood. Damn on the sudden end, mind!
(assuming this is Plat) - wow. That's cool. I like the apathetic sha-la-las very much, while simultaneously wondering whether the song would be better without them? 'One-handed model friends from the showdown'? Cool image that almost makes sense
Impressive. You should some high noodly elec guitar on this and it would be plat-perfection. The change at 2.00ish comes at just the right time, and is great. I'd like to hear that twice in an slightly extended version of this. End is brilliant and puts the song in place.
TVIYH - heheheheh - cool mandolin-ing! I normally don't klike mandolin because it's such a stubby tone but you carry it off here very well, it kind of compliments the simple, charming mood of the song. I don't think tuning counts as part of the skirmish hour
Ending chords should be looped at
Jason - my favourite part of this is the 'urrr-urrr' bit part. I think there should be a songifght kid's orchestra - it would take over the world. Smile smile smile! Oh and 'Jayyysssooon' is cool too!
Bolio - Nice bass groove. It's like you're playing in the same after-hours bar as Future Boy. This is incredibly imrpessive for an hour. Hammond organ always get a big tick from me. The bass-end is slightly dominant but not in a terribly distracting way. Would sound great as the incidental music for the scene in a movie where the hero is trying to get together the requisite parts for his heist while simultaneously his estranged girlfirend/wife is hanging around the house, worrying about his safety.
There's so many here to vote for. I think Roymond gets it for me, with The Reese Witherspoons for the music, but the words make me blush. (PS I don't have sex with dogs, dogs have sex with me!)
