24-Hour Radio Show, and Some of Your Help
So... I'm a long-time lurker, part-time somesongser. And I need some of your help. I know there've been discussions on here on rights and junk for the music posted here for use in radio shows and restaurants, and I know the general consensus is that you guys dig the publicity.
So, here's the deal. A group at my school is holding a twenty-four hour internet radio broadcast in support of the eradication of landmines in Mozambique. We're trying to get donations during the show, and we desperately need to fill time. We can't afford to buy a license for copyrighted music, so we'd like to feature some songfight/somesongs artists instead. It's a for a good cause.
What I want first is: your permission to play your music. Second, since I'm not hugely familiar with this website, I'd appreciate some suggestions of artists/songs/etc. That could include your own music, if you want. I know enough to know the big songfight hitters (Brad Sucks, Frontalot, JBB, Add, etc.), so I'm looking for some more hidden gems, but again, I'll take any and all suggestions.
Also, I think it'd be interesting to hold some kind of sidefight-type deal specifically for the show. Wherein you'd submit a song under a title I give you on the topic of eradicating landmines. And we'd have that as a feature show. Meaning you'd get guaranteed play at a specific time, so all of your friends and family could hear, etc.
Here are the details of the show, listen in if you'd like, spread the word, etc:
Twenty-Four Hour Internet Radio Broadcast
From 6:00 PM MST (8 eastern, 5 pacific) March 17th (this Friday)
Until 6:00 PM MST March 18th
To help raise money and awareness for the eradication of landmines in Mozambique. Listen by going to http://www.clearthelandmines.org
Thanks a bunch,
Eric
EDIT We'll go ahead and say the sidefight is on. Here are the details:
Title: Never Again
Deadline: Friday March 17th at 5:59 PM MST (4:59 PST, 7:59 EST) (Sorry for such short notice, but it's when the show is.)
Send to: eapeterson@gmail.com
Notes: It should be on the eradication of landmines (obviously). To compensate for time, you could just do a guy/guitar deal (and it would be fitting, see: Jonathan Mann's "Mother Money.") Yeah.
It'll be an audience vote (live) and we'll have copies available to download from the website after the fight portion of the show. Any suggestions on a time slot for the fight would be nice.

You can use anything of mine, and I know Brad Sucks would be insulted if you asked him for permission, when he explicitly gives it to you on his Web site. So there's two.
I'll tentatively be in for a guy/guitar landmine song. I'm erratic, so it'd be unfair to guarantee.

A few of my Songfight favorites; some of these are songs that may take a few listens to realize that they're dripping thickly with brilliance:
"A Very Unlikely Occurrence" by The 'Over
"Fire Bomb" by Jute Gyte (also, see everything else by Jute Gyte, especially "Happy Life")
"Midnight Rendezvous" by Gil Sans
"Shreds" by sonofsupercar
"Shipwreck" by ADD
"...In Bed" by Luke Henley
"Pass/Fail" by Jonathan Mann (also, see pretty much everything by Jonathan Mann)
ALMOST EVERYTHING by Forty Second Songs (aka Jonathan Mann, aka The Nympho Leprechauns)--especially "Crinkle Binkle", "The Gutter", "Don't Forget to Come to My House on Wednesday"
"Race to Seven" by Novox the Robot
"Back From Brazil" by Urine Luck
"She's On My Mind", "Lavendor Splendor", and "Chainsaw" by c hack
"Accelerator" by Hoblit
"Crinkle Binkle" by Frankie Big Face
"Tomorrow's Almost Over" by Lemon Party
"Blueberry Hassle" by c.layne
"Hands Up" by Johnny Cashpoint
"I Wish I Was So Sure" by Boltoph
"Run Faster" and "I Wish I Was So Sure" by Historyman
ALMOST EVERYTHING by Carol Cleveland Sings
"Hold My Calls" by Lonbobby
"Funeral Director" by Pumpkin Buzzard
So ends the stream of consciousness. I also think that almost everything by Phunt Your Friends and Karl's Mom & the Delicate Flowers is pretty brilliant, but many people would vehemently disagree, and I may be slightly biased.
In any case, you have my permission to use anything with the word "Phunt" or "Delicate" in it.

Who is still making landmines? Do you have any data on where they are being exported from?

Re: 24-Hour Radio Show, and Some of Your Help
Thanks everyone for the permission and suggestions, I'm getting a pretty good list so far, it should be a good show.
Cuba
Iraq (although production had presumably ceased since the invasion of 2003)
Iran
India
Myanmar
Nepal
North Korea
Pakistan
Russian Federation
Singapore
Vietnam
Of other states which are thought to have manufactured landmines recently:
-Turkey is now a signatory of the Ottawa Treaty
-Serbia and Montenegro is now a signatory of the Ottawa Treaty
-Egypt has unofficially stated that production ceased in 1988.
-The United States has not manufactured anti-personnel mines since 1997, but a government statement in February 2004 stated that, “The United States will continue to develop non-persistent anti-personnel and anti-tank landmines.â€
Off the top of my head, I know Russia, China, and North Korea still manufacture and use them. The USA still manufatures them, and at least did plant them along the DMZ to keep the peace between North and South Korea. I don't know if they still do. A quick browse on wikipedia results with this list:Tex Beaumont wrote:Who is still making landmines? Do you have any data on where they are being exported from?

I'm sure you can play any Heuristics Inc. or Dollar Bill & the Inkpoints (pretty sure J$ wouldn't mind).
Sorry, gotta work on Nur Ein this week, bad timing on the sidefight.
