New Year's Resolutions?

Links and other hanky panky that doesn't have to do with anything in particular.

What's that one about?

Here's mine:

1) Submit to songfight every week with a better than average song, even if it's only 30 seconds long.
2) Put out several albums.
3) Write a book. Or write/illustrate a graphic novel. Or write/animate a flash anime.
4) Read Ulysses (Joyce).
5) Do zazen 30-60 minutes first thing in the morning, and last thing before going to bed.
6) Figure out meaning of life.
7) Talk people into sitting for me so I can make some good paintings.
8) Learn to play piano better.
9) Train my ear.
10) Drink more.
11) Less porn.

Of course, these are also my New Day's Resolutions, so I guess they'll continue getting fufilled/ignored at the same rate they currently are.

I should probably add:
12) Get a real job.
13) Get a girlfriend (which would likely obviate 11).
but I figure those'll happen when they want to happen.

I wonder if anyone's tried using "What do you get if you multiply 6 x 9? 42." as a koan?

Probably a profoundly stupid idea.

Since I did not manage to successfully cross off everything from my list last year, I will just append it to include:

Go to at least one show every month.

Buy at least one album every month.

Start a real band with musicians who have good ears (and at least one gearhead). Start a coverband where we dress up in costumes and act retarded.

Springclean my media collections and my wardrobe once a season. Get rid of all my socks that are in anyway substandard, replacing them with socks that cost more than I would like to pay.

Buy a pair of midtop white on white Nikes.

Bake a chocolate cake and give it to a homeless dude.

I didn't make any last New Year's, so I had a banner year, full of exceeding expectations.

However, this year I'd like to:

-improve my slightly-better-then nonexistent multimedia dev. skills
-upgrade/replace my DAW to handle it better,
-participate in at least 1 SF per month (sounds easy, but there's a
baby coming in January, I have no delusions about the time-sink I'll
have from that point on...)
-get two reasonably non-consumer mic's, condenser and dynamic
-upgrade to studio monitors instead of bookshelf speakers I have
now
-work on my singing, and especially lyric writing
-play my guitar every coupla days so when I start recording I don't
have to play for a week prior to build up callouses to get through the
whole track
-collaberate with as many different people as I can
-write more reviews for fights I'm not in
-get over the 1-1.5 posts/day zone I'm always in
-do some song mixes for projects I'm not part of musically
-go to SF Live (hopefully Boston?) and meet some of you katz
-get a less stressful, better paying and less time-consuming job that
revolves around these resolutions...

It's gonna be a big year.... :)

I hereby resolve to pick more fights with people I consider to be lazy, and more often to point out other people's foibles without ever stopping to consider my own. See you in the new year! He.

No, my only songfight-related resolution in the New Year is to improve my recording set-up. Pretty easy if I can get round to spending the cash. And maybe to try and get a band together.

Insanity. And just what would be the point of holding a "practice" then?

22) Drink more at practice.
23) Trip out on a psychedelic ONE LAST TIME.

First off, Puce's reply was the funniest thing I have ever seen on here. Even better than my 'So Kind Stacey' reviews. While reviewing this thread, I find I make similar resolutions. And no, I don't laugh at "cathy" . Well, maybe when Irving says something funny about how women really love shopping. My goal last year was to run 365 miles. A mile a day in other words. I came close, but when I realized I was not gonna make it I gave up at the start of the month. It was either that or 6 miles a day, every day. Sometimes I give up stuff for Lent. i am not much of a Christian, but I like this tradition. In 1996 I gave up all animal products and was Vegan for 40 days. That was a trip. Hmmm I just looked at my tired old Docs. I need new shoes

are wet eyes enough, or do tears actually need to produce and trickle down the face? this is a tall order if it's #2! also, how do you sing while crying? sounds hard. good luck!

ps cathy used to be boring, but is somewhat better now that she's getting married, or maybe it's just because i have seen some of the same stuff happening because i am too. ok.

Play live, in front of strangers, semi-regularly. And at SF shows, too.

See the guy who ripped off my 200+ dvds get his ass handed to him in court (got my grand jury subpeona today, whee!).

I only got 2

1 - Spent more time outdoors playing sports (soccer, basketball) and hiking/traveling
2 - Spent more time indoors being creative ( painting, playing music)

Ultimately these two will contradict each other,
Therefore canceling each other out. Leaving me stranded in the couch watching TV.

My "She's on My Mind" makes me cry sometimes when I play it, but when I hear it I can only think of how it could've been done better. So maybe I should resolve to redo it.

I still maintain that it's an optimistic song.
