The friend I'm staying with got 100% on everything EXCEPT for the bonus level in the first world, which he couldn't even finish, let alone with 100%. I beat it with 100% on something like my eighth try, but it is damn hard.

I am having a great ol' time playing with my spiffy new PS3. Mostly, as it turns out, I'm playing Oblivion and Portal. Still haven't played MGS4 yet. I'm waiting for the hubbub around my house to die down. I suck at metal gear games unless I can really set aside some time to get immersed. I'm not usually too savvy at shooters, either, but Team Fortress 2 looks pretty cool and I'll prolly check that out soon. I'm not as impressed with GTA4 as I thought I'd be. It's last on my list right now.

I know I'm late to the party, but.. Portal is frickin' awesome. What a beautiful head-trip!

quick (well, maybe not quick, sorry) question about Portal, for those of you who've played through the game: so far, I don't see why the game's rated "Teen" (well, according the the box it's at least "Teen"; I assume it's not "Mature", but that's why I was gonna ask...), ahem: is there any reason this wouldn't be appropriate for my (almost 5 yr old) kid to play? So far, it's got, what..? Player death? A snarky computer that warns you your teeth might fall out? That doesn't bother me, she can handle that no problemo, so does it get any worse? Is there some good reason my kid shouldn't play what looks to me like an excellent outside-the-box-thinkin' game?

take care, everyone! Smell ya later!

Portal itself is pretty kid-friendly. It probably got a T rating because of the rest of the Orange Box. Well, that and there's a moderate amount of blood later on.

Cool cool. Thankya for the prompt reply, sirrah. Yeah, blood's not a big deal in my book, as long as it's not, like, brains-oozing-from-the-skull gore or sumthin'. I'm pretty sure she's not gonna be good enough at it to get to the "later on" parts anyway. Thanks!

The blood is mostly just stains which are already on the levels, and the occasional Emily Dickinson poetry written in blood on the walls.

Oh, huh, it's actually rated "T-M" here. Each game has its own separate rating. I didn't notice that before.

Anyway, I think Portal on its own would get a T simply because of the blood. But I mean, come on, Rock Band gets a T because of "suggestive lyrics." The ESRB's standards are a bit wacky to begin with.

I play TF2 all the time. Its great. To begin with its confusing, and slightly frustrating, but once you get the hang of it, you can get some really fast and furious games going.

I've been playing GTA4 for the last week or so, and am quit enjoying it. I think though, that for later iterations of the game, we should submit a 'SongFight Radio' to Rockstar for inclusion as a radio station.

Agree with fluffy, think there is nothing in portal to keep a kid from playing. Portal is awesome.

I've been playing with the Spore Creature Creator demo. It's fun. I might end up buying the full creator (which has more parts available) but unfortunately it's yet another game which needs to run on my work laptop (since my MacBook doesn't have enough graphics power for it). Meh.

Awesome. I've been waiting for Spore to come out for... uh, 10 years it seems like. Nice to finally be able to play with some pieces of it. The creatures move excellently. Fun! Need to figure out the sharing system (later).

The sharing system is simple and ingenious. The creature metadata is embedded into the .png files which show up in your Creatures directory, so exchanging the thumbnails with people is how you exchange your creatures. The official sharing community just provides a way to easily upload the thumbnails and subscribe to other peoples' "sporecasts."

SNES: finishing up another Crono Trigger playthrough
PS3: Just finished MGS4, and it was lame. COD4 and Skate are still in heavy rotation.

My PS3 id is SoberIRL if anyone wants to add me. I'm decent at cod (roughly a 1.5:1 ratio after workshopping with some really good players last week).

I grabbed the Bad Company demo, and it's pretty lame. I got Pain for free, and it's lame, so don't waste your money.

Pain is a pretty fun party game if you're in a Beavis & Butthead mentality. For a while a bunch of us were playing it on our various stress breaks at work.

My main beef with No More Heroes was that the controls were basically "Press the button it tells you to or waggle your Wiimote in the direction it tells you to and hope that you get some kind of bonus." I got bored with it very quickly. Plus I hated the protagonist. I mean, I got the feeling that I was supposed to hate him, but that didn't make the game any easier to get into.

The guy whose game and system I was using, on the other hand, friggin' LOVED it. He played it straight through twice. I'd rather just play Killer 7 again.

I'm getting that same feeling that you had. You can basically button mash your way through the game. I hoped for the feeling of hacking and slashing with the wiimote. Instead it's more of press the A button repeated, lock on with C, wait a while, chop off head, hope for bonus.

And the story telling leaves a bit to be desired. C'mon, it essentially starts in Chapter 2 and then you can go home and watch Chapter 1 on the VCR. Travis, the main character, is a bit of a juvenile prick that you don't get much of a feel for. They could've done a lot more with the story of an unlikely sap who buys a lightsaber on eBay, kills a guy and ends up having to kill assassins or else he gets killed.
