i'm looking for some good freeware/open-source midi editing software. i don't need anything special, just something that'll let me put notes on a staff. any suggestions?

I would think most programs will let you do that. Have you tried Mackie's Traktion? It's free.

i would think so too, but my searching indicates that is not the case. and the free traktion promo ended on the 31st of december.
