Hey Songfighters,

I wanted to know your opinions about "The Bed Intruder Song"? I find myself with very mixed feeling about this. On one hand, it's a terrible situation in which there's a rapist on the loose and here's a group of musicians turning one family's near-tragedy into a song for comedic purposes. On the other hand, the family is getting half the proceeds and the song has already become a top 100 hit on the Billboard charts. The family is not a well-to-do one and this money can probably do wonders for them. But is making a comedy song about an inner city rapist the way to do it?

On one hand, to quote The Man, "by any means necessary". On the other, well, it ain't much of a song, now, is it? Autotune-as-effect, generic tempo, flavor and feel... it almost feels like their manager got a marketing bug to pull his band out of the same ol', same ol' niche they're languishing in.

While they're kicking money back to the victims (good thing), it still seems predatory and another example of "any publicity is good publicity." /2ยข

Oh, so that's what happened after Auto-Tune The News stopped being funny.

I was concerned, then laughed, then didn't care. Not all in the same day.

never heard the song, but almost getting raped and being poor sucks a lot worse, then almost getting raped and becoming rich/or atleast financially sound
i'd take a shove to the ground and some flailing, if it paid good enough (hmmm was that a lil' much?)
