Is the proper retort now "Boo Yaa!"? Sorry, I lost my Urban Dictionary. Oh wait, I think you meant "Whoo ah" as Pacino in Scent of a Woman. If so, I guess my retort is "Where's the booze? Flowin' like mud around here."eggnogadam wrote:dirgetheband wrote:Bring it!eggnogadam wrote:I am thinking of going Grunge for this song.

Whoo ah !
Nonetheless, you say "grunge". Is this quasi-metal in flannel grunge (a'la Alice In Chains), pseudo-surfer guy in flannel grunge (a'la Pearl Jam), punk songster in flannel grunge (a'la Nirvana), or degenerate slacker in flannel grunge (a'la Mudhoney)? Inquiring minds want to know, like, now.

omg now I wanna get back into MudHunny. hahahaha
Awesome!
Uh... well, it's kinda sad. I was thinking Nirvana, was trying to Alice and ended up with a... kind of... kind of a ... just a rock song. I dunno. I need to tweak it (cause the vocals need to be re tracked but I'm too lazy and dont want to record after my daughter goes to bed). I might have to go with Alice on this one.
It's gonna be disappointing though if I say "hey! I wrote a Chains-esque song! herp derp!" So... be warned.
also, yes. I was going for the Marines/Pacino version of Whoo aah, as seen in this amazing WikiArticle about a candy bar!

Re: Bag of Wind? Let it out here. Bag of Bones prefight.
After several comments recently about sounding a lot like the Grateful Dead (which I take as a compliment, tho' I know it's not always intended as such), the title "Bag of Bones" definitely suggested being down on the floor about 30 feet off Port Jerry, dancing one's feet off, so this week's little number is going in that direction.
I'm working on wiring up a different guitar (yeah, I know, when you have a '57 Strat at your disposal, why would you want anything else? reason is that I'm doing my recording over at my mom's vacant house, and I don't feel good about leaving the Strat over there) that will see some use unless I wind up hating how it sounds (or being hated for how it sounds). It's a 1970's "Crown Professional," a Japanese Strat copy that was my first real electric guitar that also became my electronics experiment workbench:
This was the guitar in its glory days, when it was known as the "space guitar" - pickups could be connected in series or parallel, in or out of phase, there was an effects send-return loop before the volume control and a homemade onboard preamp (most of which was based on Craig Anderton project columns in Guitar Player) with sort of a raised "mezzanine" see-through pickguard to make room for all the 'lectronics. Current implementation won't be quite so wild, but it will have the four different pickup configurations. If I could just find my soldering iron, I could get it working and try it out, I still need to lay down a lead guitar...

Dude, don't worry. I'm the dufus who once said I was trying to channel Elliott Smith in the creation of this crap:eggnogadam wrote:It's gonna be disappointing though if I say "hey! I wrote a Chains-esque song! herp derp!" So... be warned.

Ha ha! As if Elliott Smith were a tone-deaf hack with a multi-tracker and a drum machine.

Hello, you are a sight to behold.
Production complete on "Bag of bones." I found the last two fight titles challenging, as "dead" and "bones" rarely enter my writing lexicon. I personally would like to contribute to the "Title hat" with the some creative titles.
I look forward to hearing each submission.
I love you,
Daring Front

That's not how it works, though. Titles come from a mysterious source that, as far as I know, accepts no input.Daring Front wrote:I personally would like to contribute to the "Title hat" with the some creative titles.

Oh yeah? Maybe I'll just write a song and title it myself! This will show them.

Fitzroy is indeed in! i guess a grunge fit this song. Enjoy BB's wicked thrashing... and me trying to sound heavy on a drum set with no cymbals. this song is about that rich old lady who lives down the street in the big house and spends everyday by the pool with her mirrored lampshade thingy, and her long skinny cigarettes. bag of bones.

lookin forward to it. I regret ever saying "Grunge" in the earlier post. Yours may actually BE grunge, making mine just seem like Rock Garbage. It's not as bad as even the best Nickleback song, but it certainly isn't the Grunge I had set out to make. Meh.

Re: Bag of Wind? Let it out here. Bag of Bones prefight.
well, i may have talked mine up a little much... its not the greatest recording. BB and I record the instruments live in his little "diving bell" of a jam room. we have managed to get it to a point where it is listenable, which is nice. BB (technically i guess i am the "AB" and "M" is the music) was groaning and re-recording the voice track because he couldnt get it perfect. the one we used is far from perfect.
However, if i can say anything about this track, it is grunge. we both have a vast collection of all sorts of flannel, some older than either of us. hahahhaha. we just like to rock.
p.s. i like garage rock

Two in a row, perhaps. I've got a lick that I swear I have never heard George Lynch play, although you might think differently. Played Word Scramble (C) to assemble the lyrics. I just need to get vocals down tonight to give myself a chance on the deadline. Also will try to notch-out frequencies for each instrument as my entry for Who Said I'm Dead was said to be a bit sonically jumbled.

Will wonders never cease:
1) Never thought I'd actually get to enter something
2) Never ever thought I'd be the first to post lyrics two days from the deadline.

I'll be in this one. Last one was a bit of a scramble as I got hit with gastro midway through and was flowing freely from both ends.
This is the first song using my new mic preamp so I'm working on better vocals and lyrics this time around... OH... and I'm using a click track so I'll be (mostly) in time.
edit: lyrics written and they're TOPICAL AS FUCK.

Expect to be in, I have a mix ready to send, but one part of the lyric isn't working and I want to re-do that. Didn't get the space guitar working in time to use it on this one, but I did finally find the soldering gun and so it's playing now, bring on the next title!
Very Grateful Dead-y on this one. By the way, this will be the first song on KA Tales From the Songfights, vol. 11, aka "Gozupta." Anybody got a drawing they've done of a Godzilla-type monster they'd be willing to contribute for the cover art?
Charles (KA)
Edit: don't know if this might be related to any of the recent hackery or not, but after I sent in my song to fightmaster, I got four copies of the confirmation email... time on the confirmation emails was about a minute after I sent the song, all four of them.
