Re: Nur Ein III- Round One

i don't know how many people noticed that i was posting in the "sleepwalking" thread about "kick start". i sure as hell wasn't one of them, at least until i was startled that erik would write an alphabet of crime about his mother. which, i guess, he didn't after all. i'm gonna ha...

Re: The Songfight Smiths Review Thread

my introduction to the smiths was caravan ray's cover of "there is a light that never goes out" for gift of music a couple years ago. kind of weird that i missed out on them until then, but, there it is. thanks ray! oh yeah, sweet covers, everybody. i really liked that version of "pan...

if it's the second half of the year and stops in san francisco i would totally be all about it. not that i've been around the community at all in the past two years, or that i've spent those two years writing songs or anything. but! i will probably be moving out there, and would love to finally meet...

This thread is so cool. I first found out about Song Fight through the comic Indie Rock Pete . Crazy, right? I know a ton of people that were led to Song Fight through MC Frontalot, by way of Penny-Arcade, but I got to SF through Indie Rock Pete through Diesel Sweeties through Penny-Arcade... but I ...

I have listened to Hostess Mostess's entry 12 times today, and I'm currently on my 13th time through.

So they're basically who I'm voting for. Rest of the fight was pretty awesome, too. I'll try and get full reviews up later...

Song Fight! Poetry Slam... part II

Alright, this went on around this time last year, and it was pretty fun, so I see no harm in resurrecting it: Song Fight Spoken Word! The idea is to take a fellow song fighter's song and do a Spoken Word "cover" of it. No real rules, no obligations, no deadline; just taking people's lyrics...

Protestation Proclamation

In the 1960s, there was approximately a crapload of songs protesting war, discrimination, violence, and, well, pretty much anything. There have been songs like this throughout the rest of the years (and what seems to be a recent surge about the Bush administration), but what about the scandalous thi...

I've tried very hard to keep my yo-yo nonsense off of the Song Fight boards. Honestly, I have. But this time I've just gotta share: Bit of backstory: So, yeah, my hobby is yo-yoing. And AAA yo-yoing is when you do tricks with two sleeping yo-yos at the same time. Yes, I know it's a ridiculous pastim...

The Katamari Damacy soundtrack is more or less the best thing ever.

The NESkimos are also pretty good. Their cover of "Grape Garden" from Kirby's Adventure, in particular, is rockin'.

Doug Cheatwood has a song called "Lightning Rod" that would work very easily for "Wrath of God". The chorus is something like:
"I'm a lightning rod
For the wrath of god
I'm a lightning rod
(come on come on you're a lightning rod!)"

And I guess that's all I can think of.

I suggest all of the little songs that constitute "Fingertips". I don't think I'm the first to think of that, though. "Spine" and "Spines" by TMBG, too. Oh. And "spider" by them. "Things to do in New York" by Level Nivelo is pretty good. And, uh. &qu...

I'd like to recommend everything done by Charles Vestal's "band", Major Inconveniences.
The lyrics to "Politics" speak to me a particuarly large amount:
"Politics!
Politics!
Politics!
Politics!
Politics!
Fuck you!"
