Re: GOM 2014-2015

First off: Glennny - wow, thank you so much. This is amazing and perfect. Given the subject material of the song, sharing vocal duties with Annabella was a brilliant choice. Secondly: I am working on my cover for John Lampson - I have no intention of stiffing you, good sir. I even have a good excus...

Re: GOM 2014-2015

Has there been an official extension made? I am taking an unofficial one due to aforementioned plumbing issues (which actually resurfaced but I believe are, after several showers, taken care of). I'm hooking things up as we speak and will expedite my efforts but I am definitely late for the origina...

Re: GOM 2014-2015

This is great news! I was able to verify the leak above my studio area is now fixed (I was actually able to do it myself and save money I can use towards new equipment - yay!) and I can finally power things on without fear of spark. As a result, I'll be tackling this soon...and thank you.

Re: GOM 2014-2015

I would be okay with that, only because I had a leak start in the drain above my home studio and I have a plumber coming out on Monday to resolve it. Thoughts? Feelings? Excuses?

Re: Subtractive EQ

I'm definitely glad this topic is getting some visibility because I think it can help a lot of people. This technique is really about allowing other instruments (vocals included) to have their place and be heard clearly even in a dense mix. Think about it like taking a photograph of a tall person an...

Re: Subtractive EQ

The manual for my Mackie board has what turns out to be a pretty good tip for adjusting a parametric EQ subtractively: 1. Turn the gain all the way up. 2. Sweep the frequency to find a point where the signal sounds just horrible. 3. Trim the gain below 0dB until the signal sounds nice. I use that a...

Re: Subtractive EQ

I hope you found this contribution to the topic of subtractive EQ useful. Very! I just know that when I listen to some of these mixes I hear a ton of extra whoomph (the bad whoomph) and vocals that don't sit right. I didn't see anything like that on the help board so I figured I'd share a sliver of...

Subtractive EQ

One of the compliments I routinely get about my songs is that they sound good. I searched for a while on the concept of "subtractive EQ" on the Help and How to board, but couldn't find much, so I thought I'd share my thoughts. Although I certainly don't know all there is to know, I figured...

Re: You'll receive your reviews on Monday...

Berkeley Social Scene * Very reminiscent of Elvis Costello. I love that you get right down to it - that chorus has great harmonies and a great keyboard part in my right ear. Very fitting guitar solos with a nice transition. I think this could use some sort of breakdown after the solo but it's prett...

Re: They Have The Best Candy (Strangers Reviews)

I'll probably speed through these since I've passed the deadline for voting and most of what needs to be said has been said. Here goes. Berkeley Social Scene That guitar panned right seems to lose its way once in a while. I love the backing vocal during the chorus. THe little lead guitar thing aroun...

Re: They Have The Best Candy (Strangers Reviews)

Just a quick note saying thanks for the reviews. I recorded those vocals in about 15 minutes before I had to leave for work one morning just so I could make the entry deadline. I didn't have time to record new ones but I will be fixing those things before this gets released to the greater public on ...

Re: Strangers

Strangers by John Lampson I needed a friend and you disappeared Where did you go? Subjectively real, the doctor said Did they take you again? You open your eyes but you can't see Your friends and family Those strangers, they changed you They told you, they'd save you from yourself They probed you t...

Alright! I'm back in on this one after a few weeks "off". I see there are several new faces around now, which is great! Don't be strangers!

Re: You See My Reviews First, But Not If I See You First Rev

Thanks to all for their participation in fighting and reviewing. Figured I'd throw some words down in response to some of the reviews since I wasn't entering the "Shot Down" fight. John Lampson : Love the delivery. Don't actually understand the lyrics - but it sounds great. Thank you! I wa...

Re: You See My Reviews First, But Not If I See You First Rev

There's only one I didn't vote for? I don't know what that's all about but keep 'em coming. I'll shoot some of you down next with the next fight's reviews to make up for it, alright? Berkeley Social Scene [/url]* I like the electric piano but the vocals initially come across very annoying. I find th...

Re: Yeah, but what if you just hear me? (pre-fight)

Thank you for the designs! If I may ask, what's got you down vocally? It's a horrible feeling to open your mouth to sing or speak and not have it "there". Good luck!

Re: Gift of Music 2013-14

As it turns out, Bill, this song jumped out at me right away. I had never heard it before that I'm aware of and I loved it on first listen, which also made it hard to break away from the original arrangement and style. In the end, I decided to really break down the song and I think it's a testament ...

Re: Gift of Music 2013-14

My gift is indeed for Mr. Lampson. Yes, you did, and I don't believe I ever said thank you. 'Tis quite the nice gift, I must say. I appreciate the effort you put into it and I enjoy it very much! I was just referring above to me putting in a little extra and doing a song if someone still needed one...
