Re: Nur Ein XII - Round One

Thank you all for your praise of the song, especially Psych Furs related :) and... it puzzles me, but it seems that you guys dig my voice when totally messed up. I have been doing very scientific experiments concerning my voice lately. Here comes some advice: 1.) Whenever warming up, first have a be...

4/26/17 The Psychedelic Furs

I remember how this was started by Niveous in 2015. :) My Nur Ein XII entry for "After You" (round one) was favorably compared to the Psychedelic Furs (thanks for the compliment!), which made me search this forum; but I did not find any thread on that band. So I figured I'd just start one ...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Two

To further clarify - if I write a lyric that consists of, say, two verses and three choruses or whatever which, together, form one contiguous sentence with a lot of brackets and subordinate clauses, then that still is one sentence, right? I like ridiculously long sentences. Ridiculously long means S...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round One

Time to be narcissistic and pretend I'm just being nice to the judges - clarification time! I don't think too highly of either my vocals (laryngitis, still in progress - we shall see how that's gonna work out next round...) or my mix, but I am still proud of the composition. Counter-melody occurs in...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

Songs where the lyrics aren’t posted get a zero for lyrics. Harsh, i know, but i’m rating the songs the way i want to rate them. Deal with it. I like to read along. Now that's a daring move :o don't get me wrong, I fully understand that. It's just that I did the very same thing as a judge last year...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

Hey Nick Soma, Did you intentionally make a slowed down version of "Mr. Brightside" or did that come out of the weird kismet that just happens to musicians sometimes? Hm. I can see the similarities (the chorus!), but it was definitely not intentional. Interestingly enough, I think I liste...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

Nick Soma- Welcome back Cavedweller nemesis AKA Champ #10. (just playing, love your music). I love how big this tune is. The backwards bits are really tasty! The atmosphere of this song is amazing and beautiful! Thanks! BTW, I would love to do a Battle of the Ein Champions someday. Maybe in the fal...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

So, how did you meet the challenge? What backwards elements does your song contain? Mine has backwards vocals (in Greek!) during the bridge and, more subtly, reverse piano all over the track. :) Oh, and there's a musical palindrome, of sorts, in my song. That filtered noise loop sounds exactly the ...

Sounds great Noma, I really dig it. I thought both recordings were actually quite listenable on their own, not bad! I love the tone of that thing. What a great instrument. Thanks! Re: 04/05/2017 I bought a mandoloncello.

Oh man I've been looking for an affordable mandocello for years. Where did you end up finding it, and how much did it cost if you don't mind my asking? I think I mentioned it before, but never mind ;) I found it in Thomann's online store. Thomann is a large German online musical instruments retaile...

Re: 04/05/2017 I bought a mandoloncello.

I recorded two improvised demos to showcase some different styles that sound cool on the mandocello. The first demo uses only the three top courses of the instrument; the second one, only the bottom two. The strings on this instrument are nowhere as tense as those of, for example, mandolins or 12-st...

04/05/2017 I bought a mandoloncello.

Hey guys! As the title of this thread reads, I bought a mandoloncello, or mandocello for short. Music nerds probably know about this one already, though it is very rarely ever used; for everyone else, think violin - viola - (violon)cello - double bass. Analogous to that, the mandolin family has mand...

Like Queensrÿche? Every time I listen to "Silent Lucidity", it amazes me how much it sounds like a track off The Wall.
