Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Four: "Partly Fiction"

I very much expected to be eliminated in this round, not because I thought my song was weak, but just because it's Round 4. I call it the Curse of the New Ugly. You see, back in 2014 I won round 4 with a perfect score, for a song that I thought was nothing special; in 2015, I barely made it past rou...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round 4- Partly Fiction

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Three: "Co-Pilot"

Nick Soma - This is bananas. How did you end up here? I guess you crashed on a tropical island and the island took over. What a strange left turn for you. Is Silvian Austrian as well? I hear the Ringo thing, he sounds different than you, but he sounds a lot like you. I wonder if it’s the Austrian t...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Four: "Partly Fiction"

Clarification time! When I think of a "list song," one of the first examples that comes to my mind is TMBG's "Money for Dope." That one surely would qualify - the entire lyric is just a long weird rider list (or a list of things one could sell for dope.) Another TMBG example of t...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round Three - Co-Pilot

Nick Soma feat. Silvan - Co-Pilot Sometimes I miss my co-pilot Left me here and let me down Once I'd relax for a while and My co-pilot was around Now I'm alone, nobody beside me Checking on the stuff I do I'm on my own, I can't hide it What did I get myself into? Where's my co-pilot? Nowhere to be ...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Three: "Co-Pilot"

Just sent in a song. This is a weird one for me. I never would've imagined I'd be doing a calypso sorta track with a shuffle beat, featuring the dreaded I-V-vi-IV progression in the verses, and including the words "easy peasy." But, here I am. So, grab yourself a piña colada and enjoy the ...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round Two: "The Numbers Don't Lie"

I'm in, with another alien-themed song (inspired by the High Evolutionary as depicted in the recent Guardians of the Galaxy 3 movie.) I had the basic chords, lyrics and vocal melody within one hour of first reading the title. It was a great pleasure to sing lines such as "Shall I get a probe / ...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round 2 - The Numbers Don't Lie

Nick Soma - The Numbers Don't Lie DARK GREEN is the Head of Research, who has captured an exciting creature, the Test Subject, that warrants further study. LIME GREEN is the Assistant, who is mistrusting of the newly arrived creature which he deems to be a freak of nature. He does show a certain in...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII, Round One: "Blind Spot"

I'm in. I was running out of time, so my song has no drums apart from the hand percussion (djembe, bongos, tambourine) I used. It sounds a bit unfinished to me. But I am very proud of my vocal harmony.

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round 1 - Blind Spot

Nick Soma - Blind Spot A song about a demagogue and hypocrite. Not necessarily Trump; it could be Trump, but it could be any of them, they're all the same. And a lot of those guys do sniff "magic powder," too. Well it seems you have a blind spot When it comes to any action of your own If ...

Re: Nur Ein XVIII Round Zero - Sink or Swim

Nick Soma - Sink or Swim An environmental song about a polar bear, and the effects of climate change on him. "The girl/boy" is a reference to La Niña and El Niño. With the summer season The girl is gone, the boy returns He doesn't know the reason The glaciers melt, the sun, it burns The p...

I'm gonna guess the title was deliberately "Summer Robot" and not "Winter" or "Spring Robot." M-Morty, come on, wake up Morty! *buuurp* Remember that Summer robot I built so your parents wouldn't notice when Summer is on an adventure with us? Weelll... That robot gained...

Re: Nur Ein XVII Round Four - June Moon

Nick Soma - June Moon Like most space rock songs, it's basically a drug trip. Peyote is well-known for its psychedelic qualities, but it's far from the only cactus containing alkaloids that get you high... or worse. A few species (some Aztekium and Ariocarpus species, IIRC) are shunned even by the ...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round Four "June Moon"

No end rhymes means only the end of a line, right? So there could be internal rhymes all over the place as long as the end doesn't rhyme? Because I was wondering if this means, strictly speaking, that the title must not be mentioned in the lyrics since it rhymes. I guess not.

Barely in. Last week, I wanted to add keyboards but was running out of time. This week, I got piano but no guitars (except bass)... I thought it kind of sounded like something else but I don't know what. If you hear any similarity to anything, let me know. Hope you like it!

Re: Nur Ein XVII Round Two - Floating in the Water

Nick Soma - Floating in the Water This song is written from the perspective of Archimedes of Syracuse (c. 287 - c. 212 BC) and Leonardo da Vinci (1452 - 1519 AD.) Archimedes is most famous for his buoyancy principle, allegedly discovered while taking a bath, which is referenced in the lyric. While ...

Re: Nur Ein XVII: Round One "Deified"

A few notes on my entry and its palindromes: This song is kind of unfinished, originally I wanted to add keyboards but I was running out of time. Though listening to it now, the empty hollow sound of it reflects the lyrical theme nicely, I think. The ascending/descending phrases in the music are als...
