Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

why is it I am the only person who has congratulated Merisan on their (imo well-deserved) win so far? Yikes, good point. Congratulations Merisan on having the best song in a very strong round 0. It's beautiful and haunting, and with a such a great touch on those backwards vocals. Lovely, masterful,...

Re: Nur Ein XII - Round Zero

...One judge in particular seems to be a bit of a statistical outlier, and I'd love to hear what they liked and didn't like about some of the songs. While getting ready for this year's Nur Ein (Jerkatorium's first Nur Ein), I was perusing some of the judging scores from last year and it looks crazy...

Good, astute call. Grease II on VHS was essentially my Juilliard.

Extremely high praise IMO. Not kidding. That is what I aspire to.

Re: Nur Ein XII

Ken in b4 my reply. My concern is the due dates for the songs, which (according to the Nur Ein website) vary depending on the round, and which still differ from the initial post in this string. Also sorry, I know I wrote PST instead of PDT in the previous posts, I was wrong. Other than those middle ...

Re: Nur Ein XII

There are a couple of differences between the schedule in the first post and the schedule on the Nur Ein website (mostly rounds 0 and 5). I'm guessing the Nur Ein website is the schedule to follow? I'm not trying to be pedantic or anything, it's just that a 9:01pm PST Saturday deadline and a 9:01pm...

Re: Themesong Fight 2017

Bump.

Songs are due tomorrow.

Don't be a stiffer. We're all accustomed to having ten days or less to come up with a new song, and we've all had the past 5 weeks to compose themes for our beloved colleagues so there is little justification for slacking (except maybe fluffy's extended ick).

Tax advice?

Looking for some tax advice/insight: I already completed and submitted my taxes a few weeks ago, but then today I got another 1099 in the mail for my income from SongFight royalties. Normally this wouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m worried because the total is more than it was for the past few years: A...

Re: Song Fight Live 2017 in ... ???

I'd love to visit LA, just sayin'. I could help someone else host a SFL in Los Angeles, but there's no way I can take the lead on it. I have no venue contacts, I don't know anyone with a drum set or a PA or even a truck, my day job requires some travel... I'm just not the right guy for this, there'...

Re: Old Friends (will at least give you Reviews)

Okay some quickie reviews: Balance Lost: The five percent nation of casiotone. Really well done. The vocal melody and drum machine combo has that Rural Alberta Advantage charm. I like it a lot. Berkeley Social Scene: That first chord hits like a soft wave. I wish I had the guts to compose a song wit...

Re: Read 'em and weep! (Ace In The Hole Reviews)

Jerkatorium 's tune is probably the most listenable song I've ever heard on this site. I dug it from the first downbeat. Wow, thank you, that's way too kind. And I mean that literally too, in that it is a huge overstatement of the listenability of our song over other stuff on this site. Jerkatorium...

Re: Themesong Fight 2017

OMG how is it that there are only 5 confirmed? Are there really so few egomaniacs among us that the prospect of someone writing a song for and about you holds no appeal? Whatever happened to your sense of insularity and incestuousness? Whatever happened to your cliquish self-importance? I genuinely ...

Re: Stick it in your ear! (High School Safety Pin Parade reviews)

I've been reviewing less lately because I doubt my observations are any help. Any comment I make with the sentiment, "If it were me I would have done it this way instead," is easily responded to with, "Well I'll consider that the next time I want my song to sound like either Jerkatori...

Re: Stick it in your ear! (High School Safety Pin Parade reviews)

various comments about the guitar fills and solo Flattered, but I can't take legit credit for it. Chumpy recently taught me how to use flex editing in Logic Pro X, and I have gotten progressively lazier and lazier with my guitar work and my backing vocals - instead of doing take after take until I ...

Re: Stick it in your ear! (High School Safety Pin Parade reviews)

Chumpy and I had done the 400x400 pixels cover art to include all bands that had posted lyrics and/or mentioned they'd be submitting to the HSSPP fight (it all looks like slop at the 150x150 front page resolution so we went 'clean' for that version). I don't want to leave anyone out though, so here ...

One of my favorite Christmas songs of all time is a Song Fight entry by Jim of Seattle (for the "Merry Christmas" fight way back in 2003):

Re: 9 November 2016

JB those songs are great, and I think you should have submitted "There Are More Of Us Than You" to the fight. It includes the "do you have a plan" lyric, and it was "born out of a fight entry", so it should be fair game. To distract myself from recent political disaster...
