Re: Why/How you should double tracks rather than make a copy and pan.

I'm very confused... why did you say "somewhat?" Yeah, it's painful. I recently discovered there are multiple (depending on how much you want to spend) products from a company called Synchro Arts that automate my tedious manual process of aligning and tuning duplicate vocal tracks to a guide. I may...

Re: Why/How you should double tracks rather than make a copy and pan.

There is some good advice in this thread! Like Ken, I prefer to stereo pan separate takes of the same performance. To my ears it's always worth the extra effort and sounds better than the Haas effect. My somewhat labor intensive process for vocals is as follows: I record 10 takes of me singing a par...

Re: Morphine (the band)

In the early 90s I shared a house with a guy from Boston, and he made it a point to school us on his favorite music from Boston. He turned us on to both his "Treat Her Right" and "Mission of Burma" records, which was great. After that I picked up Morhpine's "Good" and have been a fan ever since. oyO...

ZOMG fluffy, that pasta looks fantastic! I was pretty excited initially about Cosmic Crisps, but sadly they're a bit too tart for my taste.

Re: Cooking

Oh yeah I did a Chef John recipe recently, his sausage and bean stew. The recipe so nice I've made it twice! After I saw this, I went and looked at the recipe, and thought "omg, that looks good, and I think I've got all the ingredients." I had navy beans instead of cannellini beans, but it still wo...

UA Arrow - is it time to get back into the UA ecosystem? This would be the least expensive way back in. Thunderbolt 3 - Two in, two out, plus processing power to use awesome plug ins. Also, I hear their new DAW LUNA is cool. UA Twin - spend a bit more for more features? I wrote a bunch of stuff rec...

Re: Focusrite Scarlett audio interfaces

Initially, I was not sold on Universal Audio interfaces. I was angry about being potentially locked into their plugin ecosystem, and was highly dubious that their custom silicon DSP had any advantages over cheap general purpose commodity CPUs. I still feel this way, but UAD interfaces do have some s...

The algorithm handed me this excellent video on creativity from Adam Neely (who is a jazz bassist and has an excellent channel in general) this morning.
Thanks for posting Crumpart, I really enjoyed that. "The absence of limitations is the enemy of art." is a great quote.

Re: Cooking

We were ordering a pizza cutter recently and because of you and the Surrealists song, Chumpy, I put my foot down and insisted on buying the one shaped like a Motor Scooter. Toshiro was not convinced it would work well and, much to his delight, has been proven very, very wrong! Nice! Cute pizza cutt...

Re: Cooking

Yum! What makes it "prison-style," is it fermented in a sock? It uses quite a bit of filler in order to stretch the meat, like the did during the Great Depression, and also in institutions where you may want to cut costs. There are breadcrumbs soaked in milk (so they don't dry out the meatloaf) as ...

Re: lyrics, my only thought is, having to do data entry for those in two places sucks and folks won't do it. Who's going to manage that? Right, anything like that requires better data entry. Omg Third Cat, I really loved your version of Ocean of Blood! You turned it from this sorta twisted dark-folk tune into a lovely atmospheric and slightly trippy Third Cat song. I especially love the end of the bridge (my favorite part of the original too) which gives me chills, it's so good! Heh, ho...

The Jerks are in!

Both Ryan and I pitched different songs from our SECRET PARTNER's catalog, and we couldn't decide which one to do, and since they're both sorta short, so we did both of them. Congrats, it's a Jerkatorium twofer! I had so much fun, and I love both of these songs.

Ye olde American Goulash! This is not the healthiest food ever, but it definitely is comforting. I used Chef John's recipe, which is a lot fancier than what I grew up with, but still very good.

Re: Not crooked anymore (Bent Straight prefight)

Is this different from the Zip mirror ? Yeah. That's a handy zip file that has all the files in it, but the id3 tags have whatever random junk in them as set by the submitter. So, for example, if you drop this into any of the Apple music players it's going to make a mess. It will treat them as indi...

If you're like me, and the "stream all" option on the website has never reliably worked for you, you may be interested in downloading this zip file that has all the mp3s for this fight. I've painstakingly edited all the id3 information in these files so if you just drop all these files into your mp3...
