Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

ReaTune. So if you copy or move the item, any time based FX parameters come with it. Whereas if the ReaTune were on the track, you’d have to re-draw the tuning lines. If I tune with ReaTune and then have to edit (move vocal) I just print/render the track and import the new tuned vocal. You’re descr...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

Oh weird. I would think the formant feature goes with polyphonic capabilities. But what do I even know? I like how in this video he says “the most common use is to change gender of the vocals”. Well, if “Weird Al” is a gender, then yes, I suppose so. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nPAINeIGxMc W/r/t M...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

AFAIK the only feature the Melodyne has that other apps don't is the polyphonic auto-tuning support, which isn't relevant for vocals. Do other products do pitch slope, vibrato, and formant? Serious question. Watch Melodyne’s tutorial videos - they’re kind of amazing. They pick up the harmonic under...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

Why ReaPitch and not ReaTune? I'm not sure I understand why the timing gets screwed up either (you mean just if you're moving an item around?) Oops. That’s what I meant. ReaTune. Yeah, if you place the FX on the item, it uses the timebase of the item and not the track. It’s a lesser known reaper fe...

Re: Tuning Vocals in Post

I hate hate hate modern Glee-like vocals that take out all the timbre. At the same time, I don’t like pitchy singing. Tuning is perfectly fine if you aren’t overdoing it... put the vox mostly on pitch but don’t “iron out” all the “wrinkles” in Melodyne. Aim for clean takes that can be pitch manipula...

How can we prepare our children to live in the Real World (tm) if we teach them that everything is always fair and logical? What next, will we remove silent vowels from English because they're too difficult?

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

I should also note that I've only done probably 3 or 4 input channels @ 24bit/48k simultaneously, and maybe two submixes, if even, in a setting where I don't care about latency. So, YMMV there. Overall I'm pretty pleased given how flakey audio interfaces tend(ed?) to be. Not sure if that's a side-ef...

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

Thanks. Do you happen to know if it supports hardware submixes? Yes. Each of the outputs lets you select its routing settings, and one of them is 'custom mix' where you can set all the levels to get hardware monitoring and whatnot. I dabble in it but I haven't gotten into the weeds. Eg: I'll use on...

Re: Audio interface recommendations? (2018 edition)

I, too, have noticed a dearth of options in this product segment. It seems everyone wants to make smaller units that hook up to iPhones. I had to upgrade from my M-Audio because computers don't have firewire anymore. My undocumented research in 2017 led me to the Focusrite Scarlett 18i20 . I bought ...

Re: the $100 question

Aside from “learning in person is always better”... If you can get an expert to explain and demonstrate, in real-time, some sonic nuances and how to impact them, and why they’re important, then this is well worth it. Training your ears is difficult to do without that kind of help. If you can gain th...

I’m very tempted to get some of their other voice packages. I got Voices if Soul and love it. It’s basically the only thing out there for that kind of singing. Anyone used their phrase building in the chorus packages?

I already have them calculated for Nur Ein, so this was simple enough googling a couple Bash commands. Not worth cleaning up more.

IK Multimedia sale until 5 Nov Total Studio MAX (IK's "everything" bundle, including a whole bunch more than I listed here, excluding ARC) 40% off - and even cheaper if you get an individual part of the bundle, e.g. Samplitube, and then "crossgrade" Alright, so I think this scheme will work... This is going to be useless and pedantic, but speaking of "Dangerous", does anyone feel like the bass is pushing the beat at some points? I'm mostly curious if it's just me.

Re: Big Data - 3.0

Yeah that Dangerous song, how does that even work?

His new songs aren’t quite as catchy in the same way, but they’re definitely earworms after some listens.

It would have been appropriate for new music back in August. This is just what I’m currently digging. Ugh, forum police. :p

Big Data - 3.0

You may know Big Data from the hit song “ Dangerous ” off the album 2.0. You definitely have heard it somewhere at some point. Well, 3.0 came out recently. It’s really very good. It took me a ridiculous amount of listens to realize it’s a concept album and none of the songs mean what they initially ...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

Maybe Apple could, but, what's Apple's motivation to change the dynamics...? Taylor Swift complained, and Apple changed their streaming terms to be more favorable to artists. I had way too much typed and just deleted it. To get to the point: Apple needs the mindshare of creators for many reasons - ...

Re: Artist interrupts new single with an ad

I think if the artist has enough pull to be able to make it pay off, good for them. If it doesn’t, well, so long; there are enough artists lined up to take your place. I’d hate to see services responding by banning this type of thing. If it works, more artists will do it. If more artists do it, then...

I personally was not proposing any modification of the audio in the files, just adding metadata. So could we maybe please stop wasting time arguing about something that wasn't mooted in the first place? :P
If you just want to post guidelines, do it. I don't think anyone will object.
