Re: From Grey to Gandalf (The White Morph reviews)

Lichen Throat : The guitar sounds a little "rapid fire". It's programmed, right? What's your workflow for that? I'm curious. I suspect you're placing notes with the mouse - it's really, really hard to humanize a performance that way, unfortunately. Everything but the vocal is programmed. I compose ...

Re: From Grey to Gandalf (The White Morph reviews)

I’ve had unusually little time to review this week, so reviews are late and short. Brother Baker—I like the music: heavy but still melodic. The dueling vocals work well together, as usual for you. Brown Word and the Big Whine—Certainly metal. Good musicianship on the guitar. The vocal matches the st...

Re: Hanky Code wants to cover your song

I love this! I tried to pick songs where I thought the music was solid but my original vocal could be improved upon. Of the three I submitted, this was the one I though you'd be least likely to do. Shows what I know. With regard to your transfer from 11/8 to 4/4, I basically sang the original as 4/4...

I'm in. I've never tried to write for accordion before and had no idea what I was doing; I hope that isn't too apparent.

Potential Consequences by Lichen Throat Bury their hearts with a drum machine, Under the waves in a submarine. Read their names on the big marquee. The flood looks like IATSE. Sing about things they don’t sing about. When will the underground club sell out? Hard to pull off wordplay, but they might...

Sin Qua Non, by Resounding Maybes

Shoegazey indie stuff, reminds me of The Pains of Being Pure at Heart. I'm not quite through the first listen to the album, and I'm enjoying it so far.

Re: Circle of Titles - The Return

So, uh, it took me until 2021 to dig myself out of the 2020 hole and finish this up, but LICHEN THROAT HERE IS YOUR CIRCLE OF TITLES SONG I WAS PLANNING TO WRITE BACK LAST JULY: Take a Ride in My Boat Sorry it's half a year late! Thank you for coming through with it! I had almost, but not entirely,...

@mo: I thought your review was friendly and insightful. I realize that as long as I continue to be bad with the timing, people are going to complain about it. Obviously it doesn't come naturally to me, but I'll keep working on it.

Re: Come on, Pa! Tell me about those (Better Days Reviews)

I think it can appeal to people if you're saying something with passion that resonates with them. The Sleaford Mods are spoken word (maybe more shouted) and I think their songs stand up to multiple listens (if you like that sort of style). If you're interested, here's a link to one of their songs h...

Re: Come on, Pa! Tell me about those (Better Days Reviews)

Great cover art this week! Brother Baker—The drums sound good. The verses seem a little slow to me, but I love the chorus. The overlapping vocals and exuberant performances are interesting and appealing. Since you guys are actually brothers (I think), the similarity between your voices makes them wo...

Yeah, I'll be interested to see everyone's take on the title this week. Googling this phrase just comes up with a random hostel in New Zealand, which I guess could be the subject of a fun ballad.
I got that hotel, plus a guy in a white bodysuit.

Re: Come on, Pa! Tell me about those (Better Days Reviews)

Thanks for posting that chart, owl. It made me realize that I had never considered the temporal distribution of word pronunciations; I had been focusing exclusively on getting the proper syllables accented without regard to how narrowly or widely spaced they were.

I'll sign up! This is very nice of you to do. I'll submit the following songs:

Do You Have a Plan?
High and Higher
I Can't Turn It Off

PM me if you'd like sheet music. I have it for High and Higher and I Can't Turn It Off, but I have unfortunately lost my files for Do You Have a Plan.

Lichen Throat : You are a better singer than you had previously characterized yourself to be. Loved the stories in the lyrics and the use of the title. Don’t be afraid of the cymbals in your drum parts! A crash cymbal at the start of a new section is a great way to mark it’s beginning and give it s...

Better Days by Lichen Throat When the war was over, there were better days. Our enemies became our buddies, although Uncle Sam and Uncle Joe stopped being friends. Re: My pinata was full of jello (I'm Covered In It Now reviews)

Agony Sauce—The guitar sounds good: nice and clear and well-toned. For some reason the vocal melody of “I’m covered in it now” does not sound good to me. I like the stop-and-go surges of the instrumentation. Amby Moho—I like the overall tone: Appalachian folk meets electronica. I think the song stru...
