Re: Give us some (Love In The Time Of Reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene—The abrupt ending works well, and I like the guitar interplay. This sounds very polished, as if the band has been performing it for years. I’d put this in the top 25% of BSS tracks. Brown Word and the Big Whine—This was a little too slow and low for my taste. I also didn’t feel...

Love in the Time of by Lichen Throat inspired by "This Moment of the Storm," by Roger Zelazny I hear static on the radio, So I send an eye over the hills. A look at the sky, and then I know, Rain’s going to fall, and winds will blow. Cups of coffee with the mayor, Let her know what’s coming soon. M...

Re: Stubbed my toe on all (Four Corners Reviews)

Once the songs come out, if anyone can explain, from a musical theory perspective, why my chorus sounds like a metal ballad, I would appreciate the insight. Let me know if you want to see the sheet music. For some reason, all the music I wrote sounded sinister, even though I was trying to write a h...

Re: Stubbed my toe on all (Four Corners Reviews)

This was good batch of songs. Thus, fewer complaints than usual. Berkeley Social Scene—I really hated the noodley intro the first time I heard this, but it sounded completely fine on subsequent listens. This is so smoooooth! It sounds like the band has been performing this song for years. Very nice ...

Re: One Two Three (Four Corners prefight)

I'm in early, for once. I also took the most obvious interpretation of the title, using an autobiographical incident. Once the songs come out, if anyone can explain, from a musical theory perspective, why my chorus sounds like a metal ballad, I would appreciate the insight. Let me know if you want t...

Four Corners

Four Corners by Lichen Throat Fading light on the desert highway. I think it’s going to rain all night. Only five, first time I’ve been this way— such a long, long drive tonight. Going to Arizona, going to Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, all at a single point. (x2) Finally there and the rain still ...

Re: SpinTunes 16 Round 1 ‘What a Concept’

OK I did this. I have only ever read one book. Its called "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn". Its a powerful good book. My song is obviously about that. I based my song on Huckleberry Finn, too! I thought about changing it after you posted this, but I had already written the music, and it seemed ...

Clear Sky and Cool Water by Lichen Throat They think I’m dead, but man, I’m still alive, Still floating down this river through the night, Like wayward bees, escaping from the hive, Unconscious of the peril of their plight. Past forests on the shore in Illinois Past tiny lights of villages forlorn,...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

By the way, I listened to 15 Lichen Throat songs in a row the other day and decided that Tumbleweed is my favorite of yours. Wow, I'm honored by your perseverance! "Tumbleweed" is one of my favorites of my stuff, too. I didn't mention this at the time, but the conceit of the song is that the lyrics...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

Brown Word and the Big Whine—The highly processed vocal doesn’t work for me. Otherwise this seems like a competent metal-adjacent song. I like the drum pattern and the way the drums sit in the mix. CazaroTaro—I can’t decide whether I like the bass-light drum sounds or not; sometimes it seems to crea...

I'm in with my first attempt at electronica. Even though I've had this in mind for a long time, I still almost chickened out and swapped the instruments at the last minute. Apparently trying new things makes people uncomfortable.

Re: Checkered Past

Checkered Past by Lichen Throat I had a checkered past; I was a whiz at math. King of the chess club, I never expressed love. I strutted and preened, and no girl was my queen. Always so cruel to those whom I called fools, Which first set my feet on this crooked path. When I get to college, I’ll lea...

Re: It's a bit white and bony (Skeleton Key reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene—I really enjoyed this. Great melodies. I particularly like the higher pitched guitar that accompanies the vocal in the chorus. My one nitpick is that the solo, though performed well, doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the song. Nevertheless, this may be my favorite BSS song. E...

Re: You wouldn't dare... (Try Me Reviews)

This was a weird fight. In general, I didn’t think much of the songs the first couple of times through, but most of them grew on me quite a bit by the time I got around to writing reviews. Berkeley Social Scene —The acoustic guitar sounds great and meshes well with the electric guitar. This is one o...

Re: Unlock your dreams with the (Skeleton Key prefight)

I'm in on time.

We should have some short of a shadow entry procedure for songs with the fight title that have already been recorded by existing bands. I had trouble getting Bishop Allen's "Skeleton Key" out of my head this week.

Skeleton Key by Lichen Throat Sit on the couch; leave your jacket on. Got no choice; the end’s foregone. Truth be told, it’s a bit warm. Too late now to think about reform. Try Me by Lichen Throat Hear the rebel yell again, Chills run up and down your skin. Kneel before the burning pyre, Join in this unholy choir. I do think I have a decent sense of composition, however.
I agree with that statement. Personally while you may not have the most technical skill I do usually enjoy what you come up with. And anything you've made is immediately recognizable as you!
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words!
