Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

By the way, I listened to 15 Lichen Throat songs in a row the other day and decided that Tumbleweed is my favorite of yours. Wow, I'm honored by your perseverance! "Tumbleweed" is one of my favorites of my stuff, too. I didn't mention this at the time, but the conceit of the song is that the lyrics...

Re: I don't care about your (Checkered Past Reviews)

Brown Word and the Big Whine—The highly processed vocal doesn’t work for me. Otherwise this seems like a competent metal-adjacent song. I like the drum pattern and the way the drums sit in the mix. CazaroTaro—I can’t decide whether I like the bass-light drum sounds or not; sometimes it seems to crea...

Re: I don't like to talk about my (Checkered Past prefight)

I'm in with my first attempt at electronica. Even though I've had this in mind for a long time, I still almost chickened out and swapped the instruments at the last minute. Apparently trying new things makes people uncomfortable.

Re: Checkered Past

Checkered Past by Lichen Throat I had a checkered past; I was a whiz at math. King of the chess club, I never expressed love. I strutted and preened, and no girl was my queen. Always so cruel to those whom I called fools, Which first set my feet on this crooked path. When I get to college, I’ll lea...

Re: It's a bit white and bony (Skeleton Key reviews)

Berkeley Social Scene—I really enjoyed this. Great melodies. I particularly like the higher pitched guitar that accompanies the vocal in the chorus. My one nitpick is that the solo, though performed well, doesn’t seem to go with the rest of the song. Nevertheless, this may be my favorite BSS song. E...

Re: You wouldn't dare... (Try Me Reviews)

This was a weird fight. In general, I didn’t think much of the songs the first couple of times through, but most of them grew on me quite a bit by the time I got around to writing reviews. Berkeley Social Scene —The acoustic guitar sounds great and meshes well with the electric guitar. This is one o...

Re: Unlock your dreams with the (Skeleton Key prefight)

I'm in on time.

We should have some short of a shadow entry procedure for songs with the fight title that have already been recorded by existing bands. I had trouble getting Bishop Allen's "Skeleton Key" out of my head this week.

Skeleton Key by Lichen Throat Sit on the couch; leave your jacket on. Got no choice; the end’s foregone. Truth be told, it’s a bit warm. Too late now to think about reform. No window, no sun, no outdoor sounds. No mirror hangs on the shabby wall. You can’t go out and see the grounds, Can’t unlock t...

Try Me by Lichen Throat Hear the rebel yell again, Chills run up and down your skin. Kneel before the burning pyre, Join in this unholy choir. Nine sixteenths or seven eights Silver hammers, tarnished blades. Fire burns through these estates; Plug your ears through cannonades. Try me if you need a ...

I do think I have a decent sense of composition, however.
I agree with that statement. Personally while you may not have the most technical skill I do usually enjoy what you come up with. And anything you've made is immediately recognizable as you!
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words!

Re: Remember that one time? (I Used To Know You Better Reviews)

Lichen Throat: I assume you have read previous reviewers comments (not this fight necessarily) about the sloppy timing of the vocals, I may be wrong but I can only assume at this point you just don't care any more. To the contrary, I am continually concerned about my vocal timing, but I am simply n...

Re: Remember that one time? (I Used To Know You Better Reviews)

Lots of good songs this week! Thus, lots of votes. Absolutely Credible—All the instrument tones sound good. I like the unrestrained vocal, as well as the acoustic guitar in the pre-chorus. This song effectively brings a lot of seemingly disparate elements together in to a cohesive whole. Vote. Aster...

I Used to Know You Better by Lichen Throat I used to know you better when we’d play out in the desert, Ride bikes in scorching weather, and catch lizards in our hands. In dust upon the highway signs, right beside the painted lines, We’d write our names a couple times, then go back to my house. I us...

Re: Gristle in my teeth and a (Pocket Full Of Bones reviews)

With so many entries, I didn’t get to listen to the songs as many times as I normally do, so my reviews are based more on early impressions than usual. Balance Lost—I’m not sure what to make of the weird beginning, but I like the song overall. Your vocal sounds good, and all the instrumental changes...

Okay I can't go on any more - I don't understand the 'Better than kryptonite' reference and someone must tell me. Please?
I assumed it was a reference to the Spin Doctors' "Pocket Full of Kryptonite," but I'm not sure.

Pocket Full of Bones by Lichen Throat I’ve got no bread, and I’ve got no meat, Tattered leather on my feet. Rich men strut in fancy clothes; Laughing ladies stroll with painted toes. As they pass, I see their sneers, All day long I hear their jeers. The time has come to seize the reins, Break the w...

You'll Know It When You See It by Lichen Throat Coronado heard of the Cities of Gold, Closed his hacienda, put affairs on hold. Re: Drifting along with the tumblin' (Tumbleweed Reviews)

Balance Lost—The recording and mix sound great; all the instruments are clear and distinct. I found the first part of the song a little dull, but it gradually picks up steam, even before the big change at about 2:40. There are a few moments where you place the perfect chord behind the vocal (like at...

Re: Ye Olde Lyric Marte

All this week I've been a conference on sediment and hydrology. I got a little bored in one of the sessions on stream restoration, which resulted in the lyrics below for "Tumbleweed." This subject is obviously a bit esoteric, but feel free to use them, in whole or in part, as you see fit. Tumbleweed...
