Re: Get the duct tape (Broken Heart Syndrome reviews)

Balls to Monte—Nice forlorn rock vibe on this. Some 60s feel mixed with more contemporary atmosphere. I wish there was a little more going on, but I like what’s here. Brown Word and the Big Whine—I like the guitar playing and tone on this. Cohesive in sound and lyrical content. Could maybe use more ...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

Did we ever get live Lichen Throat? I played a cover of one of Lichen Throat's songs, but otherwise not yet. Wow, I'm honored, and I can't tell you how much I loved this. Your version is an improvement in many ways, not least of which that you can pronounce "Natalie" so it doesn't sound like "Nelly."

Re: Broken Heart Syndrome

Broken Heart Syndrome by Lichen Throat Her family’s house was a dim-lit hall, a barn with a yellow roof. She rode a horse before she learned to crawl, grew up alone and aloof. The plains stretched north, and west, and east; white mountains rose in the south. Her parents both were long deceased, but...

Re: Song Fight! Live(Stream) - September 2020

Can we get Lichen Throat in here? I have absolutely no idea how that'd work but I want a Lichen Throat live set. I appreciate the enthusiasm, but I don't know how that would work, either. I doubt that watching me sing next to my laptop would be very interesting, especially since I've never performe...

Lichen Throat: Do you ever write songs outside of SongFight?
Not much, aside from the other competitions that are related to SongFight, such as Nur Ein and spin to Spintunes. I began in 2015 by composing instrumentals and did that for a little over a year until I discovered SongFight.

Re: Don't bring me down with your (High and Higher reviews)

Balance Lost—The guitar sounds super crisp. Quality of execution is high. All the instruments sound clear and distinct. I think the song could benefit from more exuberance at some point. Nice work overall. Brown Word and the Big Whine—I like the steel drum or whatever that is. The rest of the song s...

Re: Up and Upper (High and Higher prefight)

I wrote my song in 11/8. I'm trying to record the vocal right now, and, wow, it's hard to sing. Holy shit! Most of my song is based on a random number generator, and I was going to do an 11/8 signature thanks to that, but decided I had enough else going on so scrapped it. Looking forward to listeni...

Re: Up and Upper (High and Higher prefight)

In the second fight I entered, I submitted a song that had bad vocal timing and was an oblique biography of someone who barely qualifies as a public figure. So basically nothing has changed between then and this fight. Also, this song is supposed to be in Phrygian mode, so if anyone can tell me if I...

Re: No worries, it's all... (Good Trouble reviews)

I have positive impressions of all 19 of these songs. That barely seems possible, but it’s true. Great work, everyone. Balance Lost—Nice solid stuff. Perhaps not the most memorable, but I’m happy anytime this is playing. The vocal fits well with the overall sound of the song. Your twin guitar mix is...

I'd been trying to avoid writing a song about COVID-19, but I finally broke down this time. I also tried to write a Book of Love song; we'll see what the reviewers think of that idea.

Good Trouble by Lichen Throat I got trouble, but it’s all good trouble— Lucky that it’s not too bleak. My mask doesn’t seal if I have stubble; I gotta shave twice a week. Re: Face down in a mud puddle (Floating Away Reviews)

Lichen Throat : Am I correct in thinking that your process is composing on a musical staff and then outputting the different parts to midi instruments, then singing over the top of that? Do you do stuff with a midi keyboard or anything, or is it all generated in the computer from musescore? This tr...

Re: Face down in a mud puddle (Floating Away Reviews)

Balance Lost—I don’t think you need the Alvin-and-the-Chipmunks vocal or keyboard or whatever that is, but the rest of this is very good. I love the chorus. I like the dreamy, looping melody. Vote. Balmark Productions—The intro is very funny and is executed well. I like this as a comedy record. The ...

Floating Away by Lichen Throat Guy on the path in the Everglades, Just after noon, no shade, A quick gust of wind blows off his hat. (My hat!) Now he can’t get it back.
