Re: I Had It Coming

I Had It Coming by Lichen Throat When I feel quiet, when I feel blue, When I can’t sell a BMW, The one day a month when I ain’t got coke, Got no liquor, no dope to smoke, That’s when I wonder where it all went wrong, Why I’m so desperate to belong. A big, dumb guy with a thick moustache, I may have...

Re: Unsaddle the horse and write your (Golfpunk Rides Again reviews)

Lichen Throat : Do people compare you to Marcus Kellis enough? The vocals seem out of time with the music, but either individually seem good. They just don't seem to quite fit together. Are you one guy or a group? Lyrically, this song is pretty well informed about golf for a song about how unintere...

Re: Unsaddle the horse and write your (Golfpunk Rides Again reviews)

Brown Word and the Big Whine—I think this is my favorite of your songs. Maybe add a section of double-time drums somewhere, but otherwise don’t change a thing. Great punk spirit. Caravan Ray—This belongs on Welcome to the Pleasuredome . Frankie Say Golf. I like the panned whiney guitars. I’m not sur...

In 1994-95, I took a music class while living in Albuquerque.
Huh, we both lived in Albuquerque at the same time! Neat.
Hey, me too! At least part of the that time: I lived in Albuquerque from 1990 to 1994 and then again since 2000.

Re: Fire up the Cadillac (Golfpunk Rides Again prefight)

I had a weird experience this time. I mildly disliked my song all the way though the recording and production process. It's not uncommon for me to have big swings back and forth as the process goes along, but this was a first.

Golfpunk Rides Again by Lichen Throat Golfpunk rides again. (x4) I joined the golf team in ninth grade— Worst choice that I ever made. I never wanted to practice; I never was any good. The middle-aged guys attacked us— With words, not irons and woods. Golf is just a dumb excuse to drink, Acting lik...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Six "Homestretch"

Wow, I'm a whole day early! This was an interesting challenge and made me create a song that I don't think I ever would have made otherwise. Thanks to the judges for a good idea.

Re: NUR EIN XV - Homestretch

Homestretch (shadow entry) by Lichen Throat This is one of those songs where the lyrics never directly mention the subject, which is left as an exercise for the listener. I'll keep the explanation behind a spoiler tag, in case anyone is interested in figuring it out. Those of you from Wisconsin may...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Five "North Beach Vampires"

I'm in with a shadow entry. This was, at long last, my attempt to write a goth song. It didn't come out quite as gothy as I had hoped, but I think I like it. The lyrics are just silly commentary on women's fashion trends; when I lived in Miami in the late 1990s, it was apparently fashionable for wom...

North Beach Vampires by Lichen Throat (shadow entry) They don’t come out when the sun is high; They’re not lying on the sand by the shore. But every night, I see them outdoors With reddened lips and blackened eyes. North Beach vampires out at night, Shopping in Coconut Grove. South Beach vampires t...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Four "Carte Blanche"

I'm in with a shadow.

This song is about the first time I saw a James Bond movie, which was A View to a Kill; it is also about other events that occurred around the same time. All of this true, by the way.

Carte Blanche by Lichen Throat (shadow entry) When I was thirteen years old, we visited my grandparents in San Diego. We were only supposed to stay three days, but my dad got sick and needed emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder. While he was awaiting surgery, they sent me to my aunt’s house....

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Three "Rear Window"

I'm in, with guest vocalist Cybronica, so at least part of the song has an on-tune vocal.

I tried hard to write a goth song but ended up with early-90s hillbilly alternative instead. Maybe goth next time.

Rear Window by Lichen Throat, featuring Cybronica [Verse 1: Lichen Throat] Down at the end of the old dirt road, Where the dusty hound dogs howl, The yard looks like it’s never been mowed, And the fields lie mostly fallow. Rust coats the big old satellite dish They installed back in ’92. Seven year...

Is anybody available to record a female vocal?

Full disclosure: I don't have all the lyrics written yet, so I probably won't be able to get you the song until Saturday night.
I can, if you still need one!
Thanks so much! I'll send you the music and lyrics as soon as I'm done with the song.

Official Entries Balance Lost—Clever lyrical take. The effects on your vocal fit well with the rest of the song. I can definitely see this as a lighthearted album closer. “Just give me more of the sweetness” is the perfect line for this. Berkeley Social Scene—I think you guys had it tough this time,...

Re: Nur Ein XV Round Two "Chupacabra"

I have another shadow entry this week. My two instruments (both sampled, obviously) are viola and something that's supposed to be a Hawaiian guitar but sounds more like a piano to me. My first idea for the lyrics was to write about a guy who had been dating a vampire and then broke up with her, leav...
